10 Best Creatures To Tame In Ark: Survival Ascended For Astraeos (& Where To Find Them)
The Astraeos is a new official DLC map for Ark: Survival Ascended, allowing players to explore an area in which has a Greek mythology-inspired landscape. From towering mountains to deep oceans, this map is home to several unique and powerful creatures to tame and use to your advantage. Whether you’re looking for a creature with fast flight, a deadly predator, or an aquatic traveler, taming the right dino can make all the difference in surviving Astraeos' many challenges.
Taming the right dino in Ark: Survuval Ascended will significantly improve your chances of survival, regardless of what stage in which you are in the game. Astraeos offers an abundance of familiar and new creatures, each suited to different terrains and playstyles. So, here are the ten best creatures to tame and where to find them.
10 The Baryonyx Is A Simple Yet Effective Mount
It Opens The Door To Exploration On Land And In Water
This semiaquatic mount has many advantages in Astraeos, with its mobility making it an exceptional option. It has a slimmer build than many similar creatures and can jump considerably. Its impressive swimming speed and lack of an oxygen meter make it an excellent choice for water exploration. Additionally, its “Tail Spin” attack can be performed underwater, adding to its versatility in aquatic environments.
You’ll find the Baryonyx spawning around the rivers of Astraos, mainly the northern swamp areas. To tame this creature, you will need to knock it out and feed it fish meat. It can then be saddled up at level 49.
9 The Thylacoleo Is Great For Moving Fast And Bleeding Other Creatures
Tame This Creature For Ultimate Mobility
The Thylacoleo is the perfect creature for speedily traveling across Astraeos with agility and mobility. This creature is a fan favorite and will be essential for travel from the beginning, offering a fast and efficient way to traverse various terrains. It can easily jump and scale vertical surfaces, making it ideal for navigating cliffs and dense forests. Additionally, its bite attack applies the “Gnashed” effect, which will drain the target’s health by five percent over five seconds. This powerful debuff allows the Thylacoleo to take down bigger threats than itself, making it an excellent choice for both travel and combat.
This creature can be commonly found in Korinthos. Tame it by knocking it out and feeding it extraordinary kibble or cooked lamb chops. Once tamed, it can be saddled at level 51.
8 The Basilosaurus Will Remove Any Of Your Aquatic Stress
This Creature Will Have You Zooming Through The Water
The Basilosaurus is an aquatic creature that can be saddled at level 60. This is an important creature to tame in Astraeos, keeping you safe from the dangers of the ocean. With consistent stats across the board, it can take down any danger that the ocean possesses. It can also regenerate health at the water's surface. Finally, it will also give its riders an insulation buff, giving them more cold and heat resistance.
You’ll find the Basilosaurus spawn all around the ocean, primarily deeper down. You can passively tame this creature using exceptional kibble. This will attract nearby predators, so you will have to be wary. Keep repeating this until it is tamed.
7 The Argentavis Is A Simple But Effective Creature
Use Its Attacks, Speed, And Picking Up Ability At Every Level
An Argentavis is a creature that will serve any player well, being used throughout the game at any level. It should be one of the earlier creatures you should attempt to tame, helping you with mobility and attacking. It has an ability to knock back others, as well as heal itself with “Rapid Regeneration”. It can also pick up most creatures in its talons and small creatures in its beak.
You will find the Argentavis anywhere in the mountains of Korinthos and Phokinthos, as well as Therokis. It is also extremely simple to tame, knocking it out and feeding it superior kibble or raw mutton. Saddle it up at level 62 and fly around with ease.
6 The Dreadmare Has Nightmarish Speed
Even With A Difficult Tame, This DLC Creature Is A Must-Have
The Dreadmare is a paid DLC creature completely invisible during the day and can only be found at night. It does not require a saddle to ride and can cover long distances quickly. It also has solid attacks, including the “Aura of Hate,” which heals the Dreadmare and does 20 damage per second.
The Dark Alter can only be interacted with at night.
These creatures are located on Therokis (Lave Island) and can be tamed in an interesting way. First, locate a Dreadmare and kill it – I found this difficult, so be prepared for a challenge. You can then open its inventory and retrieve the “Dark Alter.” You will need each possible boss tribute before you start this process. Place the Dark Alter. You will have 5 minutes to provide the tribute. Afterward, battle the Dreadmare again, kill it, and increase its taming meter. Repeat this process until taming is complete (you will need about a stack of each that spawns on Astraeos.)
5 The Pyromane Is A Fiery Attacker
It's Speed And Hot Abilities Makes It Essential For Astraeos
The Pyromane is also a paid creature and one of the most useful dinos in Ark: Survival Ascended. It does not require a saddle to ride but does have natural armor protection that depends on its base level when tamed. Its speed, agility, and jumping are great for moving around the Astraeos map, while its bite attack with a "Flame Boost" ability is effective for attacking. However, it should be noted that it is terrible in water.
It can be found on the beaches of Therokis. To tame it, you must lead it to a body of water and start damaging it until its health is below 50%. You can then mount the creature and proceed to attack creatures to apply a burning effect. Use “Flame Absorb” to increase the tame meter until it is tamed.
4 The Wyvern Moves Through The Sky At Pace
Its Many Uses Make It A Popular Tame Choice
The Wyvern is a fantastic flying dinosaur, quickly moving through the sky. The creature has three different elemental variants to suit your tastes—the Poison, Fire, and Lightning—each having different attacks. The Wyvern is excellent for traveling across the map, as well as dishing out high amounts of damage. It can also pick up fairly large creatures, making for more ease when moving around.
You’ll be able to find the Wyvern in the swamp areas in the northern part of the map, where you’ll have to snatch a fertilized egg from the nesting ground. This egg can then be hatched using standing torches. As babies, these creatures will need Wyvern milk, which you can collect by knocking out female Wyverns.
3 The Carcharodontosaurus Is A Deadly Predator
Saddled At A High Level For Killing Power
The Carcharodontosaurus is a formidable killer, boasting several attack buffs to enhance its Ferocity. For example, “Killing Frenzy” increases its speed while also granting it immunity to stuns. This creature can be saddled at level 96, making it a more advanced dino to tame.
When dropping corpses for the Carcharodontosaurus, be careful not to get too close, as this can trigger an attack.
The Carcharodontosaurus spawns around the mountains on the left side of the map, as well as in the open flat grasslands of the northeast. This aggressive dino has a somewhat unique taming method. First, you’ll need to kill some high-drag-weight creatures and drag their bodies near the Carcharodontosaurus. When it starts sniffing, drop the corpse, move away, and wait for it to eat. Repeat this process until you can ride the dino. You then have a ten-minute window to kill and eat as many creatures as possible. Continue this process until it is fully tamed.
2 The Maeguana Is A Creature With Swiftness
This Creature Is One To Tame As Soon As Possible, With Great Versatility.
The Maeguana’s greatest strength is its swiftness, allowing you to travel across the map in a matter of seconds without losing too much stamina. Its usefulness in the water is also a significant advantage for Astraeos, as it can swim at high speeds and even jump from the water's surface into flight.

10 Best Dinosaurs That Ark: Survival Ascended Is Still Missing
Ark: Survival Ascended has some cool dinosaurs, but there are still many more real dinos that would be great official additions to the title.
I found Maeguana spawns around the grasslands and valleys on the two large islands on the left-hand side of the map. This is an easy creature to tame in Ark: Survival Ascended, requiring a simple knockout method by tranquilizing it.
The Maeguana is wary and will try to run away once hit with a tranquilizer. You should attempt to hit it again as quickly as possible.
Basic kibble is the most effective food for this dino, but it can also be fed any meat or berries. Once tamed, you can unlock its saddle at level 19.
1 The Deinosuchus Is The Best Creature To Tame For Astraeos
It Is Perfect For Both Land And Water Exploration
With Astraeos being made up mostly of ocean, you're going to need a creature that can explore both land and water. Once tamed and leveled up at level 74, you'll have a beast of a versatile creature with strong stats across the board. Most impressive are its attacks: the directional bite attack, the tail swipe attack, and its deadliest move—the giga bite. It also has no oxygen bar, making itideal for underwater exploration.
You can find these powerful creatures in the swamp areas of the map, with the northern swamp being the best location to encounter them. You'll need to be level 70 to tame one, with the best method requiring you to wear a ghillie suit and tame it passively. Wait for it to open its giant jaws, then run up to it with superior kibble, shove it into its mouth, and run away. Repeat this process until it is fully tamed. Once tamed, you’ll have the best creature for exploring the Astraeos map inArk: Survival Ascended.
