10 Best Pokémon TCG Prismatic Evolutions Secret Rares, Ranked

One ofPokémon TCG's most anticipated sets is officially out, with tons of gorgeous cards to choose from. Prismatic Evolutions is a new special set featuring Eevee and its various evolutions along with new special illustration rare and illustration rare versions of various popular cards. While most of the cards in Prismatic Evolutions are reprints, other cards in the set (such as the new Eevee ex and assorted other Eevee evolution Pokémon ex cards) are brand new to the game.

As a special Pokémon TCG set, Prismatic Evolutions won't have a traditional release featuring booster pack boxes. Instead, the set will be sold in boxed and bundled products only. Not only do collectors need to buy more expensive products like the Prismatic Evolutions Elite Trainer Box, there's also high demand because individual booster packs aren't available for sale. There are a ton of great cards in Prismatic Evolutions, including some with fantastic art, especially the set's Secret Rares.

10 Roaring Moon ex

Roaring Moon ex is one of the strongest Pokémon cards in the current Pokémon TCG metagame. With the ability to knock out any opposing Pokémon no matter what their HP (at the cost of dealing damage to itself), Roaring Moon ex is an effective way to clear obstacles. Roaring Moon ex decks tend to move fast and have a favorable match-up against Regidrago VSTAR, which was one of the top decks in last year's tournaments.

This new card features a brand-new illustration by Shinji Kanda, one of the top artists in the PokémonTCG. Kanda's art rose to fame thanks to his Giratina V artwork, which became one of the most highly sought after cards in the Sword & Shield era. Kanda also illustrated the Magikarp and Magneton illustration rare cards, which are also gorgeous and have high resale value. Basically, this is one of the top cards by one of the top artists, making it a must-have.

9 Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex

Bloodmoon Ursaluna was one of the big surprises in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's first DLC, The Teal Mask. Ursaluna was first introduced as an additional evolution of Ursaring in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the Pokémon was exclusive to the Hisui region. This new Bloodmoon variant was far more scary and powerful looking and could only be captured after a prolonged quest in Kitikami. However, it's unclear whether players can bring this powerful Ursaluna forward into new games or if it's purely exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Yano Keiji illustrated the new special illustration rare version of Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex found in the Prismatic Evolutions set. The artwork showcases the Pokémon's sheer size and ferocity and does a much better job of making the Pokémon look like a threat compared to its previous special illustration rare variant (which featured the Pokémon eating honey.) This is genuinely one of the coolest cards in Prismatic Evolutions, making it a fantastic find.

8 Teal Mask Ogerpon ex

In 2023, Ogerpon stole the hearts and souls of Pokémon fans everywhere with her twinkling eyes, plucky spirit,and official status as one of the only canonical murderers in the Pokémon franchise. Ogerpon was one of the focuses of the Twilight Masquerade set and roared into the Pokémon TCG metagame thanks to her ability as an energy engine for Raging Bolt ex.

This new Secret Illustration Rare card corrects some of the flaws of the original illustration rares found in Twilight Masquerade. With an orange background instead of a green one, Ogerpon's teal mask stands out, even if she's still concealed by the rules text. Still, this is a great, expressive card featuring one of the best Pokémon around.

7 Palafin ex

Palafin ex hasn't made a big splash in the PokémonTCG, but it still has one of the coolest cards thanks to its unique illustration. The card was illustrated by world-famous manga artist Tetsuo Hara, the illustrator of Fist of the North Star. This is one of the wildest collaborations we've ever seen in the PokémonTCG. To try to bring some comparison for unfamiliar U.S. fans, it would be as if comics artist George Perez had illustrated a Magic: The Gathering card.

Hara is one of the foremost pioneers of battle manga and Palafin ex captures that look with its explosion of fists. Sure, it's disappointing that Palafin ex isn't a more popular card, but who wouldn't want an actual piece of Pokémon history sitting in their collection?

6 Raging Bolt ex

Since Teal Mask Ogerpon ex is getting a new alternate art card in Prismatic Evolutions, it stands to reason that its TCG partner Raging Bolt ex also gets in on the new card treatment action. Raging Bolt ex is one of the dominant Pokémon in the current Pokémon TCG meta, thanks to its brilliant synergy with Teal Mask Ogerpon ex. Ogerpon loads Raging Bolt ex with Grass-type Energy and Raging Bolt ex unloads them into opponent's Pokémon, dishing out 70 damage for every energy card discarded.

This new art treatment is by Uninori, a newer artist whose art has mostly appeared on standard cards. This is one of Uninori's first significant spotlights, and they don't let it go to waste, showing Raging Bolt ex in a fierce attack pose. Expect to see a lot of this card (and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex) in tournaments in the coming months.

5 Eevee ex

Eevee is the centerpiece of Prismatic Evolutions, so it stands to reason that the Pokémon gets a spotlight in our list. Its Special Illustration Rare variant card features the Pokémon with a Stellar Tera crown surrounded by gentle flowers, an acknowledgment of its blooming potential as a multi-evolution Pokémon.

Another wrinkle to the card is its Coruscating Quartz move, which deals 200 damage and requires a Fire Energy, a Lightning Energy, and a Water Energy to activate. Those energies line up with Eevee's original evolved forms, serving as a bit of an Easter egg for longtime fans. Eevee ex can also evolve into any of its evolved forms' Pokémon ex cards, which allows players to use an Eevee with some heft (200 HP as a Basic Pokémon card is impressive) to play evolutions on.

4 Sylveon ex

Although it's the newest of Eevee's evolutions, Sylveon has quickly emerged as a fan-favorite Pokémon over the last decade thanks to its bright expression and pastel color scheme. This new Sylveon ex card showcases the Fairy-type Pokémon with a curious expression on its face, bright ribbons, flowers, and butterflies floating around it.

The new card is surprisingly sturdy, with a Magical Charm attack that deals 160 damage and reduces any incoming damage to it by 100 on the following turn. The Angelite move deals no damage but completely removes two opponent Pokémon from the board, with the opponent forced to shuffle them back into their deck. Although it requires two kinds of energy, Angelite is a powerful way to completely shut down an opponent and potentially set up a win situation unless they can somehow re-fill their bench on the following turn.

3 Pikachu ex

Pikachu ex was the star of last year's Surging Sparks set, but its gold card treatment appears here. It makes sense to make one of the rarest cards in Prismatic Evolutions Pikachu ex, especially as the card's Special Illustration Rare variant is still one of the most expensive Pokémon cards of 2024.

The Pokémon TCG has leveled up its gold card treatment in recent years, with the Pikachu ex featuring a sort of reverse etched look that reveals a dazzling rainbow holofoil treatment. This stunning card might overtake Pikachu ex's last expensive cards as one of the Pokémon mascot's best-looking cards ever.

2 Leafeon ex

Leafeon ex has surprisingly emerged as one of the top cards in Prismatic Evolutions, thanks to artwork that features the Pokémon climbing on a tree branch. With a vivid green background, this card feels like a perfect representation of Leafeon. In fact, it might be the most vivid depiction of Leafeon that has ever appeared in the Pokémon TCG.

The new card features two attacks. First is a Verdant Storm attack that deals 60 damage for each Energy card attached to any of an opponent's Pokémon. This is a pretty powerful counter to cards that rely on high energy to go off, such as Raging Bolt ex. Additionally, Moss Agate deals 230 damage and also heals 100 damage from all of your Benched Pokémon. Both of these could be very valuable, although Moss Agate still relies on three different energy types to work.

1 Umbreon ex

Of course, the infamous Umbreon ex card is going to top our list of Prismatic Evolutions Secret Rare cards. The new card has been highly hyped for months, with many players expecting it to be the next "Moonbreon" card that still sells for hundreds of dollars on the secondary market. Already, Umbreon ex has shot to the top of Pokémon TCG's sales charts, with some cards selling for thousands of dollars on eBay.

The card itself has two interesting moves. The Moon Mirage attack deals 160 damage and confuses an opponent. Meanwhile, the Onyx move makes a player remove all energy attached to Umbreon and then take a prize. Trading a prize for three energy is a fantastic trade-off, especially late in the game. While it might be situational, don't be surprised to see some trainers try to find a way to make Umbreon ex work within the competitive Pokémon TCG scene this year.
