10 Strongest Steel-Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO
Steel-type Pokémon have the strongest defenses of any element in Pokémon GO, using their multiple resistances to be natural bulwarks against their rivals. For Raids, PvP, or other special events, Steel-types are perhaps the most useful Pokémon to have on your team to overcome challenges. However, some Steel-types stand above others through their unique traits to create truly powerful pocket monsters.
The Steel-type doesn't deal super-effective damage to many other Pokémon types on its own. Thankfully, Steel-type Pokémon usually have another type to create dual-element creatures who can cover a wide variety of match-ups. This makes certain combinations much stronger than others, especially if they can add potent offense to the usually defensive Steel-type.
10 Genesect
Mythical Weapon With Many Forms
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3791 CP | 252 ATK | 199 DEF | 174 HP | Fire | 15.38 | 255.55 |
Genesect is a Steel/Bug-type Mythical Pokémon with multiple forms, giving it access to a wide variety of moves. While its types don't change, the elements of moves it can learn change with the forms it takes. This gives you a much better spread of attacks, including moves from these types:
- Shock Drive Form - Electric-type Attacks
- Douse Drive Form - Water-type Attacks
- Chill Drive Form - Ice-type Attacks
- Burn Drive Form - Fire-type Attacks
The Techno Blast signature attack of Genesect takes on the element associated with its form. In addition to this move, Genesect has access to X-Scissor, Metal Claw, and Magnet Bomb, which all get extra damage from the Pokémon's Same Type Attack Bonus (S.T.A.B.).
The abnormal attacking power of Genesect's many forms gives it the strength to enforce its unique move pool onto its enemies. While the Defense and Stamina of Genesect are low compared to other Steel-types, the Damage per Second (DPS) and Total Damage Output (TDO) of Genesect are not to be underestimated. Fire-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO do hard counter Genesect though, so be careful using it in some battles.
9 Shadow Excadrill
Shake The Earth With Refined Metal
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3667 CP | 255 ATK | 129 DEF | 242 HP | Fire, Fighting, Ground, Water | 19.04 | 241.34 |
The Ground/Steel-type Shadow Excadrill has a powerful dual typing in Pokémon GO, using moves like Metal Claw, Scorching Sands, and Drill Run to decimate enemies with a high DPS. Although Excadrill has very poor Defense, it has enough bulk to outlast attacks that aren't super-effective. The high attack Excadrill has gives it the ability to hard counter certain Pokémon, especially those with any vulnerabilities against it.

10 Strongest Ground-Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO
Ground types in Pokémon GO are reliable, consistent, and annoying to deal with. While there are many fine options, these are the best of the best.
This form of Excadrill is also a Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon GO, which sports higher power than its normal counterparts. Shadow Pokémon have better stats than normal versions of the same pocket monster, giving you better scores to work with. This small, but significant, boost in Excadrill's strength allows it to contend with even some Legendary creatures that define the Steel-type.
8 Melmetal
Staggering Bulk With Diverse Moves
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4069 CP | 226 ATK | 190 DEF | 264 HP | Fire, Fighting, Ground | 15.98 | 375.53 |
Melmetal is one of the rare pure Steel-types who personifies the element by having an insane amount of Stamina to give the Pokémon tank-like qualities. While the only S.T.A.B. damage comes from moves like the Pokemon's unique Double Iron Bash, Melmetal is capable of using other strong attacks. Hyper Beam, Thunder Shock, Flash Cannon, Superpower, and Rock Slide are all incredibly effective tools in Melmetal's arsenal.
This Steel-type also has great attacking power as a Mythical creature balanced by a great number of elemental resistances. I've found that Melmetal works very well as a stall Pokémon, winning wars of attrition against high HP opponents.
7 Mega Scizor
Razor Sharp Blades To Cut Through Competition
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4621 CP | 279 ATK | 250 DEF | 172 HP | Fire | 16.17 | 329.28 |
Another Bug/Steel-type Pokémon is Mega Scizor, which boasts some of the fastest speeds of any creature that shares its typing. Despite an extra weakness to Fire-types, the staggering Attack power of Mega Scizor more than makes up for that single vulnerability. Unlike other Steel-types, Mega Scizor has a strong balance of offense and defense that allows it to contend with nearly any challenger.
Mega Scizor is an excellent Pokémon to use in the Master League of Pokémon GO, as its strong balance between attack and defense allows it to contend against most rivals without risks.
The high DPS and TDO of Mega Scizor are expressed through powerful moves like Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, Bullet Punch, and Iron Head. Despite having lower HP than most Steel-types, Mega Scizor is extremely well-rounded with all of its stats, making it versatile enough to use in a variety of situations.
6 Mega Lucario
Unstoppable Force With Trained Fists
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4325 CP | 310 ATK | 175 DEF | 172 HP | Fire, Fighting, Ground | 24.87 | 363.09 |
Mega Lucario is arguably the strongest offensive Steel-type in the game, with an absurd DPS stat that sets it apart from most Pokémon. The incredible TDO of Mega Lucario is the result of an extremely high Attack score, allowing the Pokémon to one-hit K.O. almost any foe who it counters. Moves like Aura Sphere, Bullet Punch, or its signature Force Palm make it a strong Steel-type and one of the strongest Fighting-type Pokémon.
The only thing holding Mega Lucario back is its multiple weaknesses that, when used correctly, can tear through its lower HP. Mega Lucario acts like a glass cannon during battles, with very high damage but bad match-ups occasionally. Even with its vulnerabilities, Mega Lucario still has many type resistances shared by Steel-types, giving it natural bulk that you won't see on other pocket monsters.
5 Mega Aggron
Immovable Object With Impenetrable Defense
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4705 CP | 247 ATK | 310 DEF | 172 HP | Fire, Fighting, Ground | 14.77 | 392.75 |
For those looking for the purest example of a defensive Steel-type, Mega Aggronhas the highest raw Defense stat of any other Pokémonin its element. While it doesn't have the striking power of Mega Lucario, Mega Aggron is incredibly hard to take down, even if opponents exploit their weaknesses. Mega Aggron still has above-average damage values, as its TDO and base Attack stats give the Pokémon more options.

Pokémon GO: Best Teams For Great League, Ultra League, and Master League: Dual Destiny
Pokémon GO's Dual Destiny PvP Battle Leagues offer the game's toughest battles, so you must assemble the best teams possible to win in each rank.
As another pure Steel-type, Mega Aggron's many resistances only add to its staggering defense. Mega Aggron has some of the highest potential among its type due to a large CP maximum, so it is a Pokémon you can power up consistently. Anyone who enhances the strength of a Mega Aggron will be able to use it for nearly anything, whether that's PvP, raids, or special event battles.
4 Dialga
Master Of Time Defines Strength
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4565 CP | 275 ATK | 211 DEF | 205 HP | Fighting, Ground | 17.68 | 361.22 |
Dialga, the iconic Sinnoh region Legendary Pokémon, is a Steel/Dragon-type whose unique match-up of elements gets rid of a major weakness. Unlike other Steel-types, Dialga is not vulnerable to Fire-type Pokémon, giving it few weaknesses compared to others of its type. Dialga is a powerful attacker using both Dragon and Steel-type moves, using attacks like Draco Meteor, Iron Head, and Metal Claw to tear through an opponent's HP.
Dialga has a surprising variety of possible moves, as it can learn Thunder to counter Flying and Water-type Pokémon often seen in various PvP battles or different events.
Like other Dragon-types in Pokémon GO, Dialga's greatest strength comes from its Attack, but it doesn't slouch in other categories. I've used Dialga reliably in many battles through its naturally high HP, which is complemented by great Defense as well. Both of these traits create a balanced Legendary Pokémon who doesn't struggle unless it is directly countered in some way.
3 Shadow Metagross
The Ultimate Supercomputer Of Solid Versatility
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4286 CP | 257 ATK | 228 DEF | 190 HP | Dark, Fire, Fighting, Ground | 20.85 | 355.70 |
The Steel/Psychic-type Shadow Metagross is one of the most reliable Pokémon in its type, as it has much higher DPS than other Steel-types. Metagross has extraordinary attacking strength with a variety of moves of different types, allowing it to counter more rivals. For example, Metagross' ability to use Earthquake gives it a way to deal with Fire-types, who normally are a bad match-up for it.
Metagross has other attacks bolstered by S.T.A.B. to help it win battles, such as the Steel-type Bullet Punch or the Psychic-type moves Zen Headbutt or Psychic. However, the ultimate move of Metagross called Meteor Mash does the second-highest damage of any Steel-type move, being rivaled by only one other attack. Despite more weaknesses due to its dual typing, Metagross is the epitome of a strong Steel pseudo-Legendary.
2 Origin Forme Dialga
Stronger Version Of An Already Powerful Legendary
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4624 CP | 270 ATK | 225 DEF | 205 HP | Fighting, Ground | 20.29 | 440.24 |
The alternate form of Dialga, Origin Forme Dialga has very similar stats to its original counterpart. However, the Origin Forme of Dialga has a much higher TDO, giving it extra power that the original Legendary does not have. Origin Forme Dialga has slightly higher Defense as well, in addition to a much greater DPS to let its attacks K.O. its competition.
Origin Forme Dialga in Pokémon GO is a recurring raid boss you may be able to catch during different events. The Max CP potential of this Pokémon is high, so you will want to challenge it multiple times to get a strong version of it from its raid.
What also sets Origin Forme Dialga apart from its original form is the moves it can use. Origin Forme Dialga can use the signature attack Roar of Time, which does some of the highest damage of any Dragon-type move. Since Origin Forme Dialga is still a Steel/Dragon-type, this move has even greater damage when you teach it to the Pokémon using an Elite TM.
1 Dusk Mane Necrozma
Destructive Force Of Sheer Power
Max CP | Attack | Defense | Stamina | Weaknesses | DPS | TDO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
4634 CP | 277 ATK | 220 DEF | 200 HP | Dark, Fire, Fighting, Ground | 24.52 | 509.13 |
Dusk Mane Necrozma is by far the strongest Steel-type in Pokémon GO, with one of the highest TDO values of any Pokémon you can collect. When combined with its high Attack and ridiculous DPS, Dusk Mane Necrozma can easily eliminate its enemies without risk. This Pokémon doesn't struggle against raid bosses either, with enough bulk to rival even the sturdiest of Pokémon it encounters.

Pokémon GO Fusion: Is Dusk Mane Or Dawn Wings Necrozma Better?
Now that Necrozma can fuse with Solgaleo and Lunala in Pokémon GO, it's important to know which one is best between Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings form.
The absolute strength of Dusk Mane Necrozma cannot be understated, especially when it has attacks like Sunsteel Strike at its disposal. With its signature attack Sunsteel Strike, Dusk Mane Necrozma can inflict a 230 Power move onto its foes, almost instantly delivering a K.O. with super-effective damage. Even in balanced match-ups, the neutral damage of this Legendary Steel/Psychic-type outclasses everyone else in its type.
With 10 different type resistances, Dusk Mane Necrozma has every strength of the Steel-type without any limitations. The absurd attacking strength of this Legendary easily makes it the strongest Steel-type in Pokémon GO, and one of the best Pokémon to use in the game.
