2025 Is Shaping Up To Be One Of The Biggest Years For Nintendo As Company Doubles Down On Pokémon & Metroid Prime 4 Releases

Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are still scheduled for a 2025 release, according to a new Nintendo financial report. The company has made its latest report public, revealing some interesting trends from the previous year. The report also looks ahead at the coming year, making predictions and confirming the release dates for the upcoming games.

According to Famitsu, Nintendo has confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, two highly anticipated titles, are still planned for release in 2025. Nintendo hasn't revealed any news regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, which was also announced earlier this year for a 2025 release. The two games may be launch titles for the Nintendo Switch 2, and more information will likely be shared on April 2 during the Nintendo Direct for the upcoming console.

Everything We Learned From The Nintendo Sales Report

Pokémon, Metroid, Switch Sales, And More

Besides doubling down on a 2025 release for the Pokémon and Metroid titles, Nintendo has also shared information about the state of the company, sales, and more. According to the report, the Nintendo Switch has sold 150 million units as of December 31, 2024. In comparison, the PS5 has sold 65.5 million units according to GameRant, while the Xbox Series X|S only sold 12 million units as of October 2024, according to Statista.

Despite passing the impressive milestone, Nintendo has decided to adjust its projected numbers for the coming year, expecting Switch sales to fall by 12% to 11 million units in 2025. This is likely due to the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, which might discourage fans from buying a Switch console if a next-gen console will be released soon. Nintendo also reported an overall decrease in revenue compared to the same time period in previous years, once again likely due to the anticipation of the Switch 2 announcement.

Despite reporting revenue losses for the last year, Nintendo is off to a strong start in 2025. The gaming giant has finally officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2 after numerous leaks and rumors revealed many details about the next-gen console prior to its official reveal. Nintendo has kept many details about its upcoming console quiet, keeping fans waiting eagerly to learn more about what to expect.

Several big titles also make this an exciting year for the company, from Pokémon and Metroid to Donkey Kong Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X. The game company seems to be leaning into the nostalgia factor, with titles sure to bring in new and existing fans. The Switch 2 has big feet to fill, compared to the well-selling current-gen Switch. So far, 2025 is looking like it'll be a big year for Nintendo, with plenty of releases to bump its revenue back up.
