5 Best Shows Like Apple Cider Vinegar

All six episodes of Apple Cider Vinegar are now available on Netflix, and if anyone craves more after finishing all of them, they can watch five similar streaming shows. The drama limited series, created by Samantha Strauss, is based on Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano's 2017 book The Woman Who Fooled the World, depicting Belle Gibson's scams. Gibson said she had terminal brain cancer that was magically cured to launch her platform. However, people eventually caught on to Gibson's lies, which are all chronicled in Apple Cider Vinegar.

Gibson racked up a huge following on Instagram with her miraculous story. She claimed a healthy diet had cured her brain cancer, although it was allegedly fatal. Then, Gibson used her platform to publish a cookbook and launch a recipe app, profiting from all her newfound opportunities. In 2015, though, Donelly and Toscano exposed Gibson's truth — she never had brain cancer. Gibson promptly sat down with The Australian Women's Weekly to explain her side of the story. Ten years later, Netflix released the "tru-ish" show Apple Cider Vinegar, based on Gibson's real life, but it's not the only series with similar tales.

5 The Dropout

Watch On Hulu

Hulu's show The Dropout shares many things in common with Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar, making it the perfect watch for fans of the latter. The 2022 biographical drama miniseries is inspired by the true story of Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes is the founder of the health technology company, Theranos. She infamously lied about her company's breakthroughs in the medical field to secure money from venture capitalists and private investors. Amanda Seyfried stars as Holmes in the cast of The Dropout, which also includes Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani, Holmes' business and romantic partner.

The Dropout received critical acclaim upon its release. It went on to receive numerous award nominations, including six nods at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.Seyfriend even won her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the ceremony.

4 Inventing Anna

Watch On Netflix

Inventing Anna is another critically acclaimed limited series similar to Apple Cider Vinegar. The 2022 TV show, created by renowned TV producer/writer Shonda Rhimes, is based on the true story of Anna Delvey, a notorious con artist and fraudster. Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, disguised herself as a German socialite to worm her way into New York's high society. This scheme allowed Delvey to scam people out of millions. However, it wasn't long until Delvey was caught.

In Inventing Anna, Emmy Award winner Julie Garner plays Delvey. The miniseries' main cast also features Anna Chlumsky, who stars as Vivian Kent, a reporter intent on telling Delvey's story. While her name is fake, Inventing Anna's Vivian is based on real-life journalist Jessica Pressler, who wrote the 2018 New York article, "How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People," which is what inspired the show.

3 Dopesick

Watch On Hulu

Hulu's Dopesick is based on an infamous fraud case. However, instead of focusing on one person, it shines a light on major companies and government agencies implicated in the opioid epidemic, covering everything from the development of OxyContin in the 1980s to its lasting effect today. Of course, Purdue Pharma, a pharmaceutical company, is at Dopesick's center.

Michael Keaton won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 2022 for his performance as Dr. Samuel Finnix in Dopesick.

Dopesick also focuses on individual stories, including Apple Cider Vinegar star Kaitlyn Dever's Betsy Mallum. Betsy is a coal miner who injures her back, and her doctor (Dr. Samuel Finnix, played by Michael Keaton) prescribes her OxyContin. The limited series goes on to show Dever's Dopesick character's growing addiction to the opioid. While many of the Hulu TV show's characters are fictional (like Betsy), some of their stories are based on real people and their experiences with the opioid epidemic.

2 WeCrashed

Watch On Apple TV+

WeCrashed stars Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway as Adam and Rebekah Neumann, who are at the center of WeWork's rise and fall. WeWork is a co-working space company that Adam Neumann co-founded with Miguel McKelvey in 2010. The start-up eventually became worth $47 billion in 2019. However, in less than a year, WeWork would experience a massive fall from grace, which is all depicted in the Apple TV+ drama miniseries.

WeCrashed, based on Wondery's six-part WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork, premiered in the spring of 2022. Unfortunately, it didn't get as much attention as similar shows like Inventing Anna or The Dropout. Nevertheless, Apple TV+'s WeCrashed is certainly worth the watch after finishing all six episodes of Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix.

1 Dr. Death

Watch On Peacock

Last but not least, Peacock's Dr. Death is an underrated gem that leans more into the true crime element of shows like Apple Cider Vinegar. The anthology series includes two seasons, as of the writing of this article. Both installments cover different real-life cases where doctors took advantage of their patients. Joshua Jackson stars as Christopher Duntsch in Dr. Death season 1, a neurosurgeon who maimed some of his patients. Meanwhile, season 2 covers the true story of Paolo Macchiarini, an Italian surgeon and medical researcher who experimented on his patients.

Unfortunately, Peacock hasn't renewed Dr. Death for season 3 (yet).

Like WeCrashed, Dr. Death is based on a Wondery podcast (of the same name). Seasons 1 and 2 of the miniseries adapt two of the podcast's own seasons, which has four in total. Unfortunately, Peacock hasn't renewed Dr. Death for season 3 (yet). In the meantime, fans will just have to continue watching shows like Dr. Death and Apple Cider Vinegar.
