7 Most Definitive Romance Anime Couples We're Just Obsessed With
Couples define the romance animes they're in. Without a great couple, the series itself really doesn't matter. The best couples in romance anime add everything to their series, allowing worlds to be built around them and characters to shine through their interactions. The best part about couples in romance anime is the freedom they're given to be themselves. No two couples are identical, giving plenty of room for couples with unique dynamics, fun characteristics, and interesting relationships.
While each couple can have different ways they express themselves within their relationships, there is one key trait that a couple needs to be one of the best in romance anime. They need to have good chemistry with each other, and it can be shown in a lot of different ways. Kaguya and Shirogane from Kaguya-sama: Love is War have a different relationship than Hori and Miyamura from Horimiya, but each couple seems perfect for one another thanks to their incredible chemistry.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War isn't just one of the best romance anime of all time, it's one of the best anime series in general. The third season of Kaguya-sama, dubbed Ultra Romantic, is currently ranked as the 13th greatest anime series of all time on MyAnimeList.com, above legends of the art form like Code Geass, Monster, and more. There are a ton of reasons why Kaguya-sama is so well liked, but the two biggest are its main characters, Kaguya and Shirogane.
Their relationship is one of the best in romance anime because of who they are as individuals. They're both incredibly intelligent, beyond prideful, and more than interested in one another. Their relationship is closer to a complex game than a traditional romance, and Kaguya-sama: Love is War is made all the better for it.

At first glance, The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten may seem like a boring romance anime that relies on bad tropes to get by. It couldn't be further from a boring series, as the two main characters, Shiina and Fujimiya, are relatable, complex, and adorable all at the same time. The premise itself is easy to get behind too, as they're two lovable characters who truly want the best for one another in all aspects of life.
Shiina and Fujimiya complement each other very well. Shiina is a reserved girl who her classmates revere because of her good looks and even better grades. When Fujimiya sees her outside of school, however, she turns into a thoughtful, caring person who can cook better than most chefs and attend to him like they've already been together for years.
It's not a one-sided relationship either, as Fujimiya brings the best out of Shiina. Together, they're striving to be the people they've always wanted to be despite the hardships they've had to go through. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is a great romance series that sees plenty of growth from both of its lead characters, leading to an exceptional relationship.

Tsuki ga Kirei is a hidden gem in the world of romance anime. It's one of the best single-season romance anime series around, telling a touching tale in just 12 succinct episodes. The series is defined by its two main characters, Azumi and Mizuno, as they navigate their final year of middle school and find love at the same time. It's an excellent, rare series in the genre because of its main characters. They're each incredibly introverted and have an easier time communicating with each other over LINE than they do face-to-face.
Tsuki ga Kirei is one of the more relatable series in the genre for anyone with more than a few nerves. The two main characters are also just barely teenagers when the series takes place, the perfect age for anxiety to really take hold. There isn't another romance anime that illustrates how texting and messaging are used in a relationship, another reason to love the series.
As the show progresses, so does the relationship between the main characters. They learn to communicate with each other in person, find out what it really means to be in a relationship, and overcome difficulty after difficulty in order to stay together and fall further in love with each other.

Grandpa and Grandma is one of the most realistic romance anime series around, and its premise is entirely built upon fantasy. While the fact that the titular Grandpa and Grandma find a golden apple that returns them to their youths isn't entirely realistic, their love for each other is. It's a unique series that sees a couple who have been together for decades get to fall in love with each other all over again.
Grandma and Grandpa's love for each other can be seen from a mile away. There's a reason they've been together for half a century, and the series does a great job of bringing that love to life. Not only have they learned to rely on each other in the apple orchard, but they were each able to open up to each other about the hardships they've faced, relying on each other emotionally when they need one another the most.

Pseudo Harem is one of themost unique and underrated anime series around. One of the worst tropes in anime is the use of harems. A male main character will have dozens of beautiful, interesting girls attached to him for no real reason. The main character himself pales in comparison to the girls who like him, making viewers wonder what's so special about the protagonist in the first place. While a harem itself isn't the most absurd thing for a high school-aged male to want, no series can pull it off realistically.
Pseudo Harem knocks the harem trope out of the park by turning it on its head. The female main character, Rin, is a talented actress looking to gain the attention and affection of Eiji, another member of the drama club she joins in high school. Eiji has always wanted a harem, and Rin gives it to him by acting like different people. It's a fun, light-hearted relationship that sees Rin get plenty of affection and acting experience while giving Eiji his very own pseudo-harem.

A Sign of Affection is another one of the best single-season romance anime series around. It's also a unique series that portrays a very real relationship between its main characters. The series is centered around the adorable Yuki, a college-aged girl with congenital hearing loss. When she meets Itsuomi, her world changes for the better. He's a blunt, brave young man who is more than willing to learn sign language if it means getting closer to Yuki.
Yuki and Itsuomi are a great couple because of how hard they work for one another. Itsuomi loves traveling and wants to bring Yuki with him. Yuki then decides to work her hardest to find a job so that she can save up the money needed to go overseas with her new boyfriend. Itsuomi is also constantly working on his sign language, communicating with Yuki on a level most people are entirely incapable of.
1 Hori and Miyamura
Horimiya
Horimiya might be the best romance anime of all time. It has a great cast of lovable characters, a realistic world, and arguably the most adorable couple all at once. Hori and Miyamura go together like peanut butter and jelly. They're perfect for each other and only get closer as the series progresses. In just 12 episodes, Horimiya sees the two go from nearly complete strangers to an inseparable couple.
Hori and Miyamura complement each other in several great ways. When one of them is nervous, the other will step up to the plate. When one of them is feeling reluctant, the other will take charge and handle whatever needs to be done. They both want the best for their relationship and one another and when there are two people with similar desires, like Hori and Miyamura, they're destined to have a great relationship.
