9-1-1 Season 8 Midseason Premiere Clip Reveals Maddie Is Kidnapped By A Serial Killer

A new 9-1-1 season 8 midseason premiere clip has revealed Maddie is going to be kidnapped by a serial killer during the show's latest high-octane case. 9-1-1 season 8 has involved plenty of impactful developments since it began. This extends from the temporary installment of Gerrard (Brian Thompson) as Station 118's Captain, to the recent revelation that Eddie (Ryan Guzman) is thinking of moving to El Paso, Texas to be near his son, Christopher (Gavin McHugh). There have also been plenty of major problems the team's faced, including the bee-nado and the vigilante "The Cart Cop."

Now, ABC has released a new clip of 9-1-1 season 8's premiere, confirming the upcoming, two-part return will focus on the team hunting down a serial killer. The teaser focuses on Athena (Angela Bassett) investigating a crime scene, finding rope, zipties, and blood. She later informs Buck (Oliver Stark) that the killer took his sister and 911 dispatcher Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), promising they'll get her back. The teaser ends confirming the show's return on Thursday, March 6. Check out the full clip below:

What 9-1-1 Season 8's Clip Means For The Show's Return

Maddie's Life Is In Grave Danger

Maddie's other important connection in the cast of 9-1-1 is with her husband, Chimney (Kenneth Choi), whose relationship has been an anchor for the team since it began in season 2. Recently, during season 8, episode 6, she revealed she was pregnant with their second child, something the pair celebrated. However, the midseason premiere means their family will be hanging in the balance, including one member that hasn't been born yet. This makes the rescue mission even more important, especially for her husband.

Getting kidnapped by a serial killer is reminiscent of the beginning of Maddie and Chimney's relationship, when she was kidnapped by her ex-husband, Doug (Brian Hallisay). While this parallel doesn't mean her fate is set in stone, it's a worrying prospect about what's going to happen to her next. Though her child would likely be born in a potential 9-1-1 season 9, given how early into her pregnancy she is, there's no way of knowing how her kidnapping will impact the baby. Since the procedural TV series is always presenting surprises, anything could happen to the 911 dispatcher.

Will The Season 8 Two-Parter End In Tragedy?

There's no telling what Maddie's fate is going to be now that she's been kidnapped by a serial killer, especially since the team doesn't seem to have many clues about who they are. Time is also of the essence, as a murderer holding her hostage doesn't bode well for her fate. It's very possible for the 9-1-1 season 8 premiere to end in tragedy if the team isn't quick enough to save her. However, given the many life-threatening cases they've been through together, she just might survive this latest challenge.

9-1-1 season 8 returns on Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
