Three hours’ worth of 911 calls from last week’s climbing rescue operation on Oregon’s Mt. Hood offer more details about the tragedy. After one climber, identified as Miha Sumi, fell down an icy slope on a day marked by falling ice and rock, other climbers descended to his position to try to help. One 911 dispatcher stayed on the phone with the responders for more than two hours to offer help. Sumi was airlifted off the mountain, but died from his injuries.
