Adamson, FEU-D secure semifinal spots in UAAP boys beach volleyball

MANILA – Adamson University and Far Eastern University-Diliman (FEU-D) clinched the last two semifinal berths in the UAAP Season 87 high school boys beach volleyball tournament at Sands SM by the Bay on Saturday.

Falcons Brice Malinao and Gian Ygot downed Ateneo Blue Eagles Santiago Avila and Kevin Gabia 21-8, 21-9, in the morning session as Adamson picked up its fifth win in six games to join the University of Santo Tomas and National University Nazareth School (NUNS) in the next round.

The Tamaraws, on the other hand, punched their ticket to the semifinals after Zedrick Calimlim and Samuel Coronel defeated University of the East’s Clarence Gianan and Buenaventura Limpin, 21-9, 21-11.

Meanwhile, UST's JM Lagaran and Lance Malinao clobbered De La Salle-Zobel's Mariano Roxas and Antonio Papa, 21-5, 21-9, in the morning, and Adamson's Malinao and Ygot, 21-15, 21-12, in the afternoon to sweep the preliminary round.

Defending champions NUNS continued their strong campaign, improving to 6-1 after Wayne Dionela and Kian Tan took down FEU-D’s Calimlim and Coronel, 21-14, 21-8.

In other matches, DLSZ's Roxas and Papa rallied past UE's Gianan and Limpin, 16-21, 23-21, 15-10, while the University of the Philippines Integrated School's Terren Villanueva and Marcus Bamba outplayed Ateneo's Avila and Gabia, 21-10, 21-18. (PNA)
