This quick, 1.5-miler in the Adirondacks climbs to Echo Cliff, a rocky perch with more tree-free views than its big brother, Panther Mountain.

Located on the western side of Piseco Lake, this 1.7-mile out-and-back to Echo Cliff—a rocky overlook below Panther Mountain—is a short physical challenge that rewards with expansive tree-free views of Piseco Lake and the Adirondacks. From the trailhead, hike west from Piseco Lake Road, following blue NYSDEC marks through a hardwood forest mix of maple, beech, and birch. The climb starts with a mellow incline but steepens after passing a rock slab.
A half mile in, the trail skirts a small shoulder on the mountain and then passes a flat-top boulder before heading upward again through scattered boulders. Scramble up rock and the exposed roots of a hemlock to reach the summit perch. From here, enjoy views to the east across Piseco Lake and out to Spy Lake (southeast). Reward yourself with a cliff-top snack before backtracking down to the road.
