Alright, Dragon Ball Daima Really Needs to Lay Off on Its Most Annoying Trope ASAP
Dragon Ball Daima is shaping up to be an exciting installment, delivering fan service as the Z Fighters embark on another journey to find the Dragon Balls and face new villains. At the same time, it adds a layer of intrigue by retconning aspects of the lore fans thought they knew, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats and eager to discover what new elements Daima will introduce. However, not every aspect of the anime is flawless.
The introduction of new elements in the series is essential, requiring pauses in Goku and the others' journey to retrieve the Dragon Balls to explore the intriguing Demon Realm. However, the lead-up to these new locations or the interruptions in their journey are handled in a repetitive manner. While fans have largely overlooked this trope, the latest episode incorporates it once again without a clear purpose, revealing a lack of attention to detail in the writing.
Dragon Ball Daima Repeats the Same Pattern for Pauses in the Journey
Daima Continues to Interfere With Vehicles to Take Essential Pauses
The mode of transportation in Dragon Ball Daima relies on a spaceship for Goku and the others to travel between locations. While previous arcs in the franchise, particularly in the later Dragon Ball Z saga, rarely used vehicles due to characters' teleportation abilities or the Z Warriors opting to fly, Daima limits this by focusing on characters who cannot teleport and introducing elements like "Dense Air" in the new realm, making vehicle travel the only viable option.
Thus, whenever the story needs to pause and build up the lore, Dragon Ball Daima introduces some issues with the air travel vehicle, forcing Goku and the others to stop. Initially, the series limits Vegeta and Piccolo’s travel by providing only one spaceship with limited space. Later, Goku, Shin, and Glorio face their first stop when their vehicle is stolen. Since then, whenever a break is needed for the story, Daima consistently uses the vehicle as a point of interference.
Vegeta and the others’ travel is also briefly hindered when their spaceship is stolen. Since then, the series has relied on spaceship malfunctions to create necessary pauses. The latest exploration of Planet Megath in Dragon Ball Daima Episode #13 also happens due to a sudden engine failure. While pauses in the journey are essential, this repeated use of vehicle issues is becoming stale and frustrating. It’s especially disappointing considering Daima has already introduced numerous details that could naturally drive the narrative forward.
Daima Can Reintroduce a Training Arc for Goku and Vegeta
Dragon Ball Daima begins by transforming the Z Warriors into children, creating a significant obstacle for them to display their full power. Additionally, the Demon Realm’s environment introduces elements that further restrict their abilities. These factors could have been used as a narrative opportunity for Goku and Vegeta to adapt by undergoing training to master the new challenges.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Daima is the introduction of new, strong enemies that can challenge the already-overpowered main cast. The Kraken was an excellent checkpoint where Goku and Vegeta could have paused to train and grow stronger. With the latest episode introducing giants, Dragon Ball Daima presents yet another compelling element that could be used to develop Goku and Vegeta’s strength, rather than continuing to rely on the repetitive and annoying trope of interfering with the spaceship to explore the Demon Realm.
