American Idol Season 23 Announces Brand-New Role For Carrie Underwood Amid Signs She’s Failing As A Judge

Carrie Underwood won't only be critiquing contestants on the singing competition series; she'll also be hosting her own webseries about her American Idol journey. Carrie won American Idol season 4 in 2005 and has since become a superstar. Although many people were thrilled to hear that she was chosen to replace Katy Perry on the judging panel alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, some have vowed to boycott the show because she sang at President Donald Trump's inauguration. Time will tell if Carrie succeeds or fails as a judge during American Idol season 23.

Carrie will host the webseries Icon To Idol, which will chronicle her origin story and will be released as a companion to American Idol, airing on YouTube beginning March 4.

According to Deadline, Carrie will host the webseries Icon To Idol, which will chronicle her origin story and will be released as a companion to American Idol, airing on YouTube beginning March 4. Each episode of Idol To Icon will cover a different aspect of the American Idol competition. It will air throughout the entire season, with each episode corresponding to the part of the competition currently airing on American Idol.

Carrie kept a journal while she competed on American Idol. Idol To Icon will feature the country music superstar reading those journal entries while also discussing her fashion highlights and behind-the-scenes confessional moments. In the final episode, Carrie will discuss her memories from the American Idol season 4 finale and her winning moment.

What Carrie Underwood's Icon To Idol Role Means For American Idol Season 23

It Will Be Exciting To Relive Carrie's American Idol Journey

Carrie is the first American Idol alum to be a permanent judge on the show. That's why it's a fantastic idea for the series to look back on her journey and how she became the superstar that she is today. Hearing about her experience in her own words from her journal entries from that time will be especially touching because they'll surely be emotional.

It'll also be thrilling to relive Carrie's American Idol performances. From her first stunning audition of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" to her mind-blowing rendition of Heart's "Alone," after which judge Simon Cowell correctly predicted that she'd win the competition and sell more records than any previous winner, to the debut of her heartfelt first single "Inside Your Heaven," Carrie had an incredible run on the show. Her story should be told so that people who don't know it can understand why she's such an American Idol icon after all these years.

It's very smart of American Idol to give Carrie the chance to remind people on Icon To Idol ofwhy they fell in love with her in the first place. Now that she's facing backlash because of her inauguration performance, and some of her fans have turned away from her, this webseries will be a nostalgic trip back in time that will hopefully soften their stance towards her. When Carrie was a contestant on American Idol, she was the definition of America's Sweetheart, and perhaps she can reclaim that title.

American Idol is a reality singing competition that adds to the international "Idol" brand, conceived initially in the U.K. as Pop Idol. Holding massive auditions across the U.S., American Idol invited several contestants to perform in front of a panel of judges that would determine whether or not they'd go on to future rounds for a chance at competing in the fully televised premiere of the show. Contestants are voted off each week by American participation via voting through various mediums, and the winner of the competition would be given a contract with a record label to secure a future as America's next musical idol.
