The streamer release Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) and Coda (2021), the latter of which won Best Picture at the Oscars.
Apple TV+ is arguably more successful on the TV front, delivering a number of acclaimed and popular series without developing a reputation for cancellations like Netflix has. Notable shows on the streamer include Foundation, Silo, Slow Horses, For All Mankind, and Ted Lasso, and Severance season 2 is poised to be a big hit for Apple this month. Though not quite reaching this same level of acclaim, one 2024 Apple TV+ comedy was evidently enough of a hit to earn a season 2 renewal, but it now won't be returning at all.

The Comedy Show's Sophomore Outing Had Already Been Mostly Filmed
Even though most of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin season 2 has been shot, season 2 has now been cancelled. Created by Claire Downes, Ian Jarvis, and Stuart Lane, the Apple TV+ historical comedy presents a fictional account of the life of criminal Dick Turpin (Noel Fielding) as he outwits lawmen in the 18th century. The 6-episode first season hit the streamer last year, earning an 84% score from critics and a 78% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, with a Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin season 2 announcement coming in July 2024.
After first being reported by The Sun, Deadline now confirms that the plug has been pulled on The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin season 2. According to the report, production was about three-quarters finished when Fielding abruptly "pulled out" of the project, with The Sun stating that the star "failed to come to work" following the show's holiday break. Season 2 "cannot be salvaged," Deadline says, and the cast and crew have now all been disbanded. No reason was provided for Fielding's alleged departure.

Audiences Are Out Of Luck
There's likely more to the story here regarding Fielding's reported decision not to return to work. Contractually, the star could find himself in hot water if he did abandon the production, and there could be consequences. After all, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin cast and crew are now out of work, and a significant amount of money had evidently already been poured into the show since season 2 was almost done filming.
Fielding's previous work includes Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy, The IT Crowd, and a voice-only role in Disenchantment.
Any hopes of a season 3 have now been dashed. It's possible that more information will emerge over the coming weeks regarding why The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin fell apart, but this is certainly a sad day for those who were looking forward to the comedy's return this year.
