Around 5 percent Stipend Hike for Post Diploma DNB Broad Speciality trainees: Here are NBE's Revised Stipend Guidelines

New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released the revised stipend guidelines applicable to all the NBE accredited Hospitals/Medical Institutions.

In the notice, NBE specified the basic stipend prescribed by NBEMS for post-MBBS DNB (Broad Speciality), Post-Diploma DNB (Broad Speciality), 2 Years Diploma (Post MBBS—Broad Speciality), DrNB (Super Speciality), and FNB courses.

As per the revised stipend guidelines, NBE has granted around a 5% stipend hike for Post Diploma DNB (Broad Speciality) courses than what was prescribed by the natboard in 2019.

While previously, the 1st year and 2nd year Post Diploma DNB trainees (Broad Speciality) used to get Rs 35,000 and Rs 37,000 respectively, the amount has now been increased to Rs 37,000 for the 1st year trainees and Rs 39,000 for the 2nd year trainees. However, for most of the other courses, the amount of the prescribed basic stipend remains the same.

Previously, NBEMS had released its stipend guidelines on 02.04.2019. Now, NBE has released the revised stipend guidelines in supersession of the guidelines notified vide public notice dated 02.04.2019.

"Paying stipend to the NBEMS trainees by the accredited hospitals/medical institutions is compulsory," NBE mentioned in the notice dated 09.09.2024.

According to the NBEMS stipend policy, the hospital shall have to pay the NBEMS trainees a BASIC stipend in accordance to any of the following applicable categories:

i. Basic Stipend prescribed by the NBEMS:

As per the revised guidelines, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Post MBBS DNB (Broad Speciality) trainees will get Rs 35,000, Rs 37,000 and Rs 39,000 respectively, which was prescribed for them in 2019 as well.

In the case of FNB training, the trainee doctors will get Rs 41,000 monthly stipend in first year and Rs 43,000 monthly stipend during their second year of training. There is no change in the amount prescribed for FNB trainees than what was prescribed by NBE in 2019.

As per the NBE notice dated 09.09.2024, the Private or State Government hospitals / medical institutions shall have to pay the NBEMS trainees a basic stipend as prescribed by the NBEMS at Sr. no. (i) above or basic stipend according to the respective State Government policy (whichever is higher):

* This does not include any kind of allowances as may be paid by the respective authority / hospitals. It is at liberty to the accredited hospitals to pay any allowances over and above the basic pay.

 Apart from this, NBE has prescribed that the 4th, 5th & 6th year trainees of a Direct 6 year NBEMS courses shall be paid stipend equal to 1 st , 2 nd & 3 rd year trainees of a Super specialty course respectively provided that they clear the DNB Part-I Examination.

 In order to maintain the parity to basic stipend guidelines, the rate of stipend needs to be periodically revised by the respective hospitals / medical institutions in accordance to the revision of stipend made by the respective State Governments (for Sr. no. ii) or by the Central Government/Authorities (for Sr. no. iii) from time to time, NBE further mentioned.

 NBEMS-accredited hospitals are at liberty to pay NBEMS trainees a monthly stipend more than the prescribed stipend, NBE mentioned in the notice.

 Further, it also mentioned that it is also desirable that the hospital provides accommodation to their trainees in addition to their stipend. However, the hospital shall not reduce the stipend of the trainees in lieu of providing accommodations.
