MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University ended its campaign in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament with an 18-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-12 victory over the University of the East at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Saturday.

Amil Pacinio Jr. scored 18 points while Kennedy Batas chipped in 17 points, 19 receptions, and six digs as the Blue Eagles placed fifth for the third straight season with a similar 7-7 card.

Jian Matthew Salarzon contributed 16 points and 23 receptions, while Jettlee Gopio had 11 points built on four blocks for Ateneo, which clawed back from a 12-16 deficit to claim the third set.

The Blue Eagles kept their momentum in the next two sets to wrap up the match in two hours and 15 minutes.

“The team is very promising and since it's only our first year with coach Vince as the lead coach, the players' reaction to the new system we're applying is good. So, we're very excited for next season," said Peter Torres, deputy to Ateneo head coach Vince Mangulabnan.

Captain-libero Lance Andrei De Castro had 13 digs and 12 receptions in his last game with the team.

Rookies Roy Piojo and Raquim Aceron scored 22 and 19 points, respectively for winless UE. (PNA)
