It started with an Atlanta writer’s curiosity in 2011 and quickly turned into a bona fide wildlife survey: the Squirrel Census employs citizen science volunteers to count squirrels in Atlanta parks. This fall, the project will tackle the squirrel population in New York City’s Central Park.
