Battlestar Galactica & Star Trek Killed The Same Actor Off 4 Different Times
Battlestar Galacticaand Star Trek: Discovery killed off Rekha Sharma four different times. Ronald D. Moore's reimagining of Battlestar Galactica premiered in 2004 and became one of the most well-regarded science fiction television series of all time. With its gritty story and shocking twists, Battlestar Galactica captivated viewers, and none of its characters were ever safe. After a devastating attack from the android Cylons wipes out most of humanity, the surviving humans flee into space in search of Earth. Battlestar Galactica ran for four seasons and regularly appears on lists featuring the best television shows of all time.
With its premiere in 2017, Star Trek: Discovery brought Star Trek into the streaming era and ushered in a new golden era for the franchise. Originally conceived as a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, Discovery followed Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) on her journey from committing mutiny to becoming a Starfleet Admiral. Discovery was met with mixed reviews throughout its five-season run, but the show ultimately ended as a success and produced numerous spin-offs. Several actors have appeared across both the Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek franchises, including Rekha Sharma, who was killed off in both shows.
Rekha Sharma Was Killed Off Once In Battlestar Galactica & Three Times In Star Trek: Discovery
Rekha Sharma Appeared In 32 Episodes Of Battlestar Galactica & 5 Of Star Trek: Discovery
In Battlestar Galactica, Rekha Sharma portrayed Tory Foster, an aide to President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) who later discovered that she was one of the final five Cylons. Foster had initially believed herself to be human but discovered that she was actually a Cylon at the end of season 3. Foster comes to embrace being a Cylon more than the others and she later kills Cally Tyrol (Nicki Clyne) when Cally learns the identity of the Cylons. Cally's husband Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas), who is also a Cylon, murders Foster in a rage when he discovers that she killed his wife.
Rekha Sharma appeared as Commander Ellen Landry in Star Trek: Discovery, the Chief of Security aboard the USS Discovery in the show's first season. Landry was killed in Discovery season 1, episode 4, as she attempted to sedate a massive alien tardigrade. Rekha Sharma returned at the end of Discovery season 1, portraying the Mirror Universe version of Commander Landry, one of Captain Gabriel Lorca's (Jason Isaacs) most fervent followers. She was killed when Discovery destroyed the flagship of the Terran fleet, the ISS Charon. In an alternate timeline experienced by Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), Michael Burnham killed Landry on the ISS Discovery.
Both Battlestar Galactica & Star Trek Underused Rekha Sharma
Sharma Has Prover Her Range As An Actress In Many Television Shows & Films
A Canadian actress of Indo-Fijian descent, Rekha Sharma may be most known for her roles in Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek, but she has appeared in numerous other popular television shows as well. Viewers may recognize her as Dr. Harden in Smallville, Sarita Malik in V, or Dr. Lorelei Tsing in The 100. She has also appeared in episodes of House, Supernatural, Arrow, and The Fosters. Most recently, she portrayed Shivani in Roswell, New Mexico, Jessica Roberts in Yellowjackets, Neeta Devi in Transplant, and Susan Redman in The Cleaning Lady.
Although Discovery found ways to bring Landry back as her Mirror Universe counterpart, all of her appearances were quite brief.
Throughout all of these very different roles, Rekha Sharma has shown her range as an actress and proven that both Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Discovery underused her talents. Star Trek: Discovery, in particular, set Commander Landry up to be a fascinating character, only to kill her off in the fourth episode of the series. Although Discovery found ways to bring Landry back as her Mirror Universe counterpart, all of her appearances were quite brief. Both Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Discoverycould have given Rekha Sharma more to do and allowed her to bring greater depth to her characters.
