Battling schizophrenia for 8 years, Nair Hospital staffer jumps to death from 15th floor of apartment

Mumbai: A tragic incident unfolded on Monday afternoon after a 33-year-old employee of Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central died by allegedly jumping from the 15th floor of his apartments located on Anandrao Nair Marg. According to the Police, he has been undergoing treatment for the last 8 years for schizophrenia.

The deceased was identified as Rohit Gurbani who hailed from Madhya Pradesh, a Class III employee working as a Record Assistant in Nair Hospital, the Agripada police station official said.

The video of Rohit Gurbani jumping from the 15th floor of his residence later went viral on social media.

According to a PTI report, “He jumped off the terrace of 15-storey Topaz Apartments located on Anandrao Nair Marg. He was undergoing psychiatric treatment. Kin have told us about the deceased battling depression. No suicide note was found from the spot,” he said.

An Accidental Death Record (ADR) has been registered and further investigation is underway, the official added.

As per a media report in the Free Press Journal, He was undergoing treatment for the last 8 years for schizophrenia and had a history of attempting suicide due to his mental illness.

Residents discovered the body and promptly notified the police. He was rushed to Nair Hospital at 5:40 pm, and staff at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival.
