Best Picture Winner Anora's Streaming Release Date Revealed
The streaming release date has been officially revealed for Anora. Releasing in fall 2024, Anora originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the coveted Palme D'Or. The movie's successful awards season culminated in winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The film also won four in four other categories, including Sean Baker's win for Best Director, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, and Mikey Madison's surprise win for Best Actress over favorite Demi Moore. The movie's Yura Borisov lost out on a Best Supporting Actor win to A Real Pain's Kieran Culkin.
Per Variety, the streaming release date has been revealed for Anora. The Best Picture winner will be available to stream on Hulu starting on March 17. This comes almost 5 months after the movie was released in theaters. This is the same platform that hosted the Oscars themselves for a somewhat fraught live telecast.
What This Means For Anora
Anora Was Record-Breaking At The Oscars
The timing of the streaming release date announcement makes sense, as it comes right after the movie won the coveted award for Best Picture. Anora came out in theaters months ago, so its release to streaming is not only highly anticipated because of its great reviews, but because of its recent Best Picture win. Taking two post-Oscar weeks to release on streaming will give the movie time to do a small theatrical victory lap. Once it does hit Hulu, the film is likely to do well on the streaming charts.
Anora's streaming release date announcement also comes after the film made history at the Oscars last night. Baker set a record for being the only person to win four Oscars for one movie in the same ceremony. Previously, only one person had won four Oscars in one night, and that was Walt Disney in 1954. However, unlike Baker, Disney won the awards for four separate films, making his win not quite as impressive as Baker's. The record-breaking nature of Anora's win sets it up for even more success on streaming.
Our Take On Anora's Streaming Release Date
Anora Had An Extremely Impressive Run
Anora's streaming availability comes 10 months after the film initially premiered at Cannes, and it is astounding to reflect on where the film went in that time. While it is not the lowest-budget movie ever to win Best Picture, Anora was made for only $6 million. For a quick comparison, Christopher Nolan's 2024 winner Oppenheimer had a $100 million budget, a much more typical total by modern Hollywood standards. The small budget and broken records serve as a testament to the great victory of Anora, which is nearly certain to succeed again on streaming.

Anora's life takes a dramatic twist when she impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch, catapulting her from the streets of Brooklyn to a world of opulence and scrutiny. As her new in-laws arrive with plans to dismantle the hasty union, Anora must navigate the cultural and social chasms between her past and her present. The film, directed by Sean Baker, masterfully blends sharp social commentary with heartfelt drama, painting a vivid picture of love, identity, and the unexpected consequences of a fairytale gone awry.
