This Foothills favorite circles a gulch with a cascading spring and bird's-eye views of downtown Boise.

Just minutes from downtown, this 6.1-mile dayhike—part of the 130-mile Ridge to Rivers trail system—climbs up a gulch rife with sagebrush, arrowleaf balsamroot, and views across Boise. At mile 2.1, turn left for a two-mile loop that crests the route’s highpoint and passes a cascading spring at the head of the gulch. Descend 500 feet in two miles on the return trip.

From the parking pull-out, descend into Hulls Gulch and hike northeast.

Turn left at the 3-way junction and tackle a series of switchbacks that climb 400 feet.

Turn right at T-junction. The trail on the left climbs to the Upper Hulls Gulch trailhead and parking area.

A cascade drops down the head of the gulch. From here, the route turns south and reconnects with Waypoint 2; continue straight at this junction to return to the trailhead.
