"Can She Have A Love Life?": Sophie's Return To The Dating World In Leverage: Redemption Season 3 Explained By Showrunner

Leverage: Redemption showrunner Dean Devlin has discussed Sophie's possible return to the dating world in the upcoming season of the show. The Leverage revival series debuted in 2021, and Leverage: Redemption season 3 released on Prime Video on April 17. One of the core Leverage: Redemption characters is grifter Sophie Devereaux, whose complicated romantic past has caused her numerous issues, coupled with the off-screen death of her fiancé, Nate Ford. After achieving a redemption of sorts, viewers will be interested in whether more romance is on the cards for Sophie.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Devlin reveals that Sophie has gone through a transformational journey and has had to reconcile with some of her past actions, which ended up hurting people she cared about. Namely, her romance with former stepdaughter Astrid's father, and the complications this has brought to her relationship with the Interpol agent. He talks about the importance of her getting the proverbial monkey off her back, achieving redemption, and focusing on what life looks like now for her. Check out Devlin's comments below:

Well, I think what it is is that last season, she was going for her redemption. She was dealing with understanding that she had really hurt some people in her old version of herself, and she had to find her own redemption to do that, especially how she had hurt a stepdaughter that she loved.
So once she kind of went through that redemption, she got that monkey off her back, but now, it's like, "Okay, so what does life look like now? How does she maintain a relationship with a stepdaughter whose job it is to put people like her in jail, and can she have a love life? Can she have a sex life?" This is stuff that she hadn't even been open to before this season, so as I say, she got all the cobwebs out of the apartment, but now she has to decorate it.

Sophie has always been one of the most mysterious characters in the Leverage franchise, and the woman of many personalities has lived a colorful life. Many do not even know Sophie's real name, which shows how entrenched she has been in a life of grifting and conning, but recent events might have caused her to reevaluate her life. It has been a tumultuous few years for Sophie, with Astrid's reappearance and the death of Nate, and now that she has put some of her past behind her, it could be time for her to start to move on again romantically.

Opening up to people is a challenge for her, but it feels like, at this point in the show, Sophie's story is at the point where she's more ready for this than ever.

While Devlin refuses to confirm whether Sophie will be dating again in the upcoming season of the show, he hints that this will be a storyline. The nature of the Leverage team, and Sophie's role in it, makes it difficult for the characters to form romantic bonds with those external to the group, due to the deception required to maintain their lifestyle. While Sophie could start to date again, it is unclear the type of partner she might pursue, but it would make the most sense for it to be somebody in her world.

Sophie's contradictory nature as a Leverage character makes her a complex and interesting person, and one who has difficulty trusting. Opening up to people is a challenge for her, but it feels like, at this point in the show, Sophie's story is at the point where she's more ready for this than ever. It is likely Sophie will choose to focus on herself, and being a better person, and let the romance happen organically, which it invariably does. It feels like she is ready to find love again, and this will make for an interesting story arc for Sophie for the remainder of Leverage: Redemption.
