Can You Make Jabba the Hutt Sexy? Believe It or Not, Star Wars Did Try

For most Star Wars fans, Jabba the Hutt is far from sexy—and if you disagree, no judgment here. However, Star Wars did make an attempt to give the slug-like yet iconic character some sex appeal. Did it work, though? Well, that’s up to you to decide.

Given that Jabba the Hutt resembles an overgrown slug, it’s safe to say he’s not likely to top anyone's “Sexiest Star Wars Characters” lists anytime soon. However, even the most die-hard Jabba fans might be surprised to learn that Star Wars did make an attempt to give the Hutt some visual appeal… kind of.

In Star Wars: Legacy #0, John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, and Dan Parsons introduced Queen Jool, the female counterpart to Jabba. While it’s unclear what the primary goal was for Queen Jool—beyond being a memorable character and playing a small role in the Legacy narrative—there’s no denying that she is essentially Jabba if he got a makeover, a visual no one asked for but one that’s undeniably entertaining.

Queen Jool was first mentioned in Star Wars: Legacy #0, but her in-narrative debut didn’t come until Star Wars: Legacy #14. In her introduction in issue #0, her character design makes it immediately clear that she belongs to the Hutt species, with a striking resemblance to Jabba. Like Jabba, Jool has the appearance of an oversized slug with a yellowish-green skin tone. However, this is where the similarities end—Jool is presented in a far more glamorous fashion, adorned with jewelry, a red corset, and a bejeweled eyepatch over her left eye. This eyepatch also doubles as a cybernetic enhancement, enabling her to monitor her cantina.

As detailed in Star Wars: Legacy #0, Jool is the owner of a notorious cantina—Rik's—located in the underworld of Coruscant. Like Jabba, she is entrenched in the criminal world, not only as a bar owner but also as an information broker. In many ways, Jool embodies the female counterpart to Jabba, and with her glam-inspired appearance, she is perhaps the closest Star Wars has ever come to offering a "sexy" version of the iconic character. While she may not be part of the main Star Wars canon, she remains memorable for her unique portrayal.

Queen Jool May Only Be a Part of Legends Canon, But Don’t Discount Her Character

To clarify, Jool is part of the Legends canon, which encompasses all Star Wars media published before April 25, 2014, excluding the six original movies and Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series. As such, Jool is not part of the main Star Wars canon, and even within Legends, her presence is limited, appearing only in several issues of Star Wars: Legacy. However, this doesn’t mean Jool is a throwaway character—much of Legends is still considered an integral part of the Star Wars universe’s legacy. And there’s always a chance that Jabba the Hutt’s female counterpart could one day be introduced into official Star Wars canon.
