Catwoman Is Coming For Absolute Batman, But Are Their Wedding Bells In the Future?
Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder has finally dropped the news fans have been waiting for—when present-day Catwoman will enter the narrative. Perhaps even more exciting, though, is Snyder teased the direction the BatCat romance will take in the Absolute Universe, leaving fans eager for what’s to come.
With Snyder’s thoughts on Bruce’s stance toward marriage, kids, and happiness now clear, it will be fascinating to see what direction he takes with Catwoman.
Writer Scott Snyder recently sat down with Comics Beat to discuss Absolute Batman, where the burning question “Where’s Selina?” naturally came up. This is a pressing topic for fans eager to see what twist the Absolute Universe will bring to the iconic pairing, as well as for those who simply love Selina Kyle and can’t wait for her to join the story.
Snyder explained that while fans have seen her in flashbacks as a child so far, they can expect her to appear in the present-day narrative during the second arc of the story. So, while her presence—and some much-anticipated BatCat action—is on the horizon, the real question remains: What direction will their relationship take?

Snyder offered insight into the direction of the BatCat relationship by sharing his personal perspective on it. He revealed that, in his opinion, Selina and Bruce’s romance was never “the most interesting” thing to him. He explained that he “just didn’t think they had a real bond,” elaborating that their relationship in the comics often falls into a repetitive pattern: “they get close, and then it’s doomed to fail because they’re both deeply committed to what they’re doing.”This point likely resonates with many who aren’t fans of the BatCat romance.
Snyder also shared his interpretation of Bruce’s desires and overall life goals, stating that he doesn’t see Batman as someone who would want to settle down with marriage and children. While he acknowledged that there are numerous interpretations of the character where this could be a path to happiness, he personally believes that “he’s someone who gets total happiness and fulfillment, honestly, from the work that he does.”With this insight, it’s clear that Snyder’s plans for Absolute Batman don’t seem to involve an endgame romance with Catwoman that culminates in marriage.
Scott Snyder: For me, Bruce is almost more like, and again I must stress, there are other versions of him that I think are just as valid and would probably be happy in a different situation, but my belief about the version that I like to build when writing him in the main line is that he’s someone who gets total happiness and fulfillment, honestly, from the work that he does. He’s happy making sure the world is safer and that people are inspired by what he does. And that is enough for him as it is for some people. You know what I mean? He’s not sad or missing something by not being married with kids in the main universe to me.

There’s no denying that many of Earth-Prime Batman’s storylines have revolved around his relationship with Catwoman, with several nearly culminating in marriage. With Snyder’s thoughts on Bruce’s stance toward marriage, kids, and happiness now clear, it will be fascinating to see what direction he takes with Catwoman. If Absolute Batman isn’t building toward a wedding or a child, it’s likely that Snyder is crafting a completely fresh take on Selina and Bruce’s relationship. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long to find out, as arc two is set to tease the direction the Batman/Catwoman dynamic will take in the Absolute Universe.
