Charlie Cox Teases Foggy And Karen's Key Role In Daredevil: Born Again After They Almost Did Not Return
Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox teases Foggy and Karen's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the road to releasing the Daredevil: Born Again TV show on Disney+ has been a long one, the MCU timeline is finally getting ready for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen to return to the screen in just two months. Even though Daredevil: Born Again isn't officially serving as Daredevil season 4, the Disney+ drama will be putting emphasis on what the Netflix series established for Matt Murdock.
Following his comments to PopVerse in 2024, where Cox stated, "It was pretty heartbreaking when [Woll and Henson] weren’t around initially," the MCU star gave a preview of the pair's roles in Daredevil: Born Again, as the actor recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly about what to expect from season 1. Without giving too many spoilers away, Karen and Foggy will have crucial parts to play in Daredevil: Born Again for Matt's arc, as Cox shared the following:
I think of Karen and Foggy as being the heartbeat of Daredevil. Without them, nothing that Matt does really has any emotional impact. The humanity and vulnerability that they brought to those characters allows me as Matt to really delve into the darkness.
What Charlie Cox's Karen & Foggy Comments Mean Daredevil: Born Again
When Daredevil: Born Again was first put in development, it became evident very quickly that Marvel Studios wanted to shy away from multiple elements of Netflix's Daredevil series. Despite having both Cox's Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, and even Jon Bernthal's Punisher back, it didn't take long for the MCU audience to express their concerns about the lack of key players like Foggy and Karen. Given how they played instrumental roles in the original Daredevil show, it was a shock that Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll were being left out of Daredevil: Born Again.
Thanks to the creative overhaul that Daredevil: Born Again went through, the MCU show will honor the importance of Foggy and Karen in Matt's life, especially after all these years after the events of Daredevil season 3. Cox is correct that without the two of them, so much about Matt as a character wouldn't work, including his crusade as Daredevil. Even though there are only a few glimpses of them in the Daredevil: Born Again trailer, time will tell what life looks like for the three of them together.
