Cobra Kai’s Finale Sets Up Robby’s Redemption From Season 1

Cobra Kai's finale hints that the redemption Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) has worked for since season 1 is coming in the final 5 episodes. Premiering February 13 on Netflix, Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 picks up from the tragic events of Cobra Kai season 6, part 2's cliffhanger ending. The finals of the Sekai Taikai erupted into a multi-dojo all-out brawl that saw the accidental death of Cobra Kai team captain Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Kee).

Cobra Kai season 6, part 3's trailer shows that the Sekai Taikai finals will resume in the San Fernando Valley, in the same sports arena where Cobra Kai and The Karate Kid movies' All Valley Under 18 Karate tournaments were held. The students of Miyagi-Do, led by senseis Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), have to pick up the pieces from the harrowing events of Barcelona. While some, like Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser), question what they're fighting for, Robby still has an insurmountable challenge in facing Iron Dragons team captain Axel Kovačević (Patrick Luwis).

Cobra Kai’s Finale Sets Robby’s Redemption By Winning The Sekai Taikai

Robby Is Poised For The Big Win That's Eluded Him Throughout Cobra Kai

Robby's disappointing tenure as Miyagi-Do's team captain in Cobra Kai season 6 is poised to end with his ultimate redemption. Although Robby earned the captaincy by beating Miguel Diaz (Xolo Mariduena), Keene's performance in Sekai Taikai competition was underwhelming. True, Robby was distracted by concern for Tory Nichols (Peyton List) and the amorous attention of the Iron Dragons' Zara Malik (Rayna Vallandingham), but Robby was outmatched by the imposing Axel's size, skill, and power.

However, Cobra Kai season 6, part 3 could end with Robby not only defeating Axel to win the Sekai Taikai, but doing so at the All Valley Sports Arena, the site of two of Keene's biggest failures. Robby lost the All Valley Championship to Miguel in Cobra Kai season 1. Keene was defeated again in the next year's All Valley, this time by Hawk (Jacob Bertrand). For all his skill, Robby has never won in tournament competition, but becoming Sekai Taikai World Champion when Cobra Kai ends would put any doubts about Robby to rest, at last.

Cobra Kai Has Been Robby’s Redemption Story All Along

Karate Made Robby A Better Person

Robby Keene's Cobra Kai story has been a long-form redemption arc that could culminate with Johnny Lawrence's son finally achieving the big win that has eluded him for the entire series. Like Johnny, Robby was an "ace degenerate" when Cobra Kai first introduced him. Robby was on a fast-track to nowhere before he found karate. After stints with Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai out of resentment toward his father, Robby reconciled with Johnny as well as Miguel. Robby's personal life has improved, but he's still not a karate champion.

Robby has been a villain and a hero in Cobra Kai, but what he has yet to become is a champion.

Robby and Tory Nichols both need karate to give them a leg-up in life, whereas Miguel Diaz and Sam LaRusso have college careers and futures beyond karate to look forward to. Robby has been a villain and a hero in Cobra Kai, but what he has yet to become is a champion like Johnny and Daniel. Don't be surprised if Cobra Kai season 6 ultimately ends with Robby beating Axel in the Sekai Taikai to prove he's not only "the best around," but the best in the world.
