Conservation Groups Oppose Hotel on Mt. Washington

The owner of the Cog Railway on New Hampshire’s Mt. Washington has proposed to build a hotel, the Skyline Lodge, on part of its land about 1,000 feet from the summit of the iconic mountain–but at least seven conservation groups are not on board. The groups, including the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and The Nature Conservancy, worry the building would damage the fragile alpine zone. Stakeholders are now waiting for a ruling from the Coos County Planning Board for the next steps.
