Danny Pudi’s Character In Apple TV+’s Video Game Show Is Basically Evil Abed From Community

Mythic Quest is another hit comedy show similar to Community which stars Danny Pudi, and interestingly, his MQ character has a lot in common with a variant of his Community character. Danny Pudi is a wonderfully talented actor who did an outstanding job playing Abed, a film-obsessed college student in Community. Abed is incredibly intelligent, and frequently breaks the fourth wall with a level of awareness that bends reality inside the show. However, he is also sweet, cares deeply about his friends, and has insights about how to help them achieve things and grow in ways they couldn't without him.

And when Community tackles a series of episodes which deal with multiple dimensions, Abed is at the center of things, seeing when and where things go wrong. This multiverse story also leads to the introduction of Evil Abed and the Darkest Timeline, a version of the character who is far more mischievous and uses his intellect and brilliance for evil. Which, in a surprise turn of events, appears to resemble the character Pudi is now playing in Mythic Quest.

Danny Pudi's Mythic Quest Character Is A Lot Like Evid Abed In Community

But There Are Clear Differences With Each Character

Evil Abed is dangerous, cruel, and singularly focused on taking over the regular world inhabited by the rest of the study group. He sees this mission as a way to establish himself in the Prime timeline and gain power. And to achieve this, he is willing to use, manipulate, and bend other people to his will. However, while Brad in MQ is not quite so evil, there are definite similarities between both characters, including their ability to manipulate others and disconnect emotionally from his misdeeds.

Brad's sole focus appears to be money. He recognizes that money is power, and if he has the opportunity to make more money by backing a sole creator as opposed to a large corporation, he will do so. But this also leads to him trying to find ways to accumulate more wealth, which he is incredibly honest and straightforward about. In the show, Mythic Quest, he knows that the money they make is essentially taking the hard-earned cash of adults, through their children's desperation for cosmetic goods, or gambling it all away on RNG boxes.

Brad's Behavior In Mythic Quest Season 4 Feels Like A Storyline Out Of Community

Brad Has Joined The Darkest Timeline

In Community, Abed is a deeply introspective character who views others through a camera lens often. He records home movies, and often appears to take the role of audience to the events as they play out. And when the Evil Abed storyline plays out, Abed has some serious introspective moments. As a comedy show, these moments are always balanced with humor, and plenty of wild comedy beats as the characters commit to wild characteristics and traits.

Abed is a deeply introspective character who views others through a camera lens often.

And in a lot of ways, this is similar to how Mythic Quest is presented more generally. Comedy in both shows is handled in similar ways that make for great and funny beats throughout. However, Brad's role in the show appears to be especially similar, as he watches from the sidelines as events unfold. He steps in where necessary, and he directs action, conflict, and contention. He is also occasionally reflective in Mythic Quest, in a way that makes it feel more akin to Community, and deeply satisfying for fans of both shows.
