DC’s New Wonder Woman Just Gave Me My Motto for 2025, Making Me More Hopeful Than Ever
WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #4!
I was already in love with Kelly Thompson’s Absolute Wonder Woman, but I never expected to find my motto for 2025 within its pages—something I’d been struggling to pin down since the start of the new year. The fact that I can’t even recall the last time a fictional character inspired me to rethink how I approach my own life speaks volumes about just how special this series and its writing truly are.
Unlike Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman, Absolute Wonder Woman resonates with me on a deeply personal level rather than just a humanitarian one.
Each new year, I like to choose a word or two to represent what I strive for and what I want the year to embody—a guiding light of sorts. For 2024, my word was "independence." However, since the start of 2025, I’ve struggled to pinpoint the right word(s) to inspire me this year—until I read Absolute Wonder Woman #4 by Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, Jordie Bellaire, and Becca Carey.
From the moment it debuted, Absolute Wonder Woman became one of my favorite ongoing DC comic series. Now, it holds a special place in my heart as the series that helped me define my 2025 motto: positivity and hope.
“You Somehow Make Everything Seem Better Than It Is. Hopeful.” – Etta in Absolute Wonder Woman #4 (2025)

Absolute Wonder Woman #4 continues Diana’s journey as she confronts the monstrous Tetracide, a foe that bested her in the previous issue by robbing her of her magic-infused prosthetic arm. In this installment, Diana embarks on a quest to reclaim her arm through magical means. This mission requires specific ingredients for a spell, leading her to two local witches who happen to be acquaintances of Steve Trevor. With their help, Diana successfully conjures a new arm, but before returning to face the Tetracide, she shares a conversation with one of the witches that deeply resonated with me.
In what seemed like an ordinary exchange, Diana reframes something one of the witches, Etta, perceives as negative into a positive light. This prompts Etta to say, “You somehow make everything seem better than it is. Hopeful.”That simple statement struck me because it perfectly encapsulates what makes Diana so extraordinary—especially in this series—her relentless commitment to finding hope and positivity in any situation. I couldn’t help but think, "what a beautiful way to live, to intentionally choose to see the positive." In that moment, I realized that this was how I wanted to live my life, and it’s how I hope others will come to see me as well.
Absolute Wonder Woman Is One of Diana’s Best & Most Inspiring Portrayals EVER

I see myself as a pragmatically positive person. However, pragmatic positivity for me is more of a default setting than a deliberate choice, and that’s where I see the key difference between my outlook and Wonder Woman’s. Diana doesn’t just stumble into positivity; she consciously chooses it. This means she isn’t ruled by her initial emotional reactions. Instead, she chooses to respond rather than react—two actions that may sound similar but are fundamentally different. Reacting is driven by the heat of the moment, while responding is guided by intention and purpose. And if there’s one thing I want for my life, it’s to live purposefully.
Thompson’s Absolute Wonder Woman run has left me in awe, particularly her nuanced portrayal of Diana. I can honestly say that a comic has never sparked this level of introspection in me. I read comics for fun, and when I picked up Absolute Wonder Woman #4, I wasn’t expecting to have such a profoundly enlightening moment—one that would shape how I approach the rest of 2025. Thompson has also deepened my appreciation for Wonder Woman as a character, reminding me that hope, positivity, and love are at the very core of who she is.
I Appreciate the Societal Commentary of Absolute Batman & Absolute Superman–But Absolute Wonder Woman Offers Something Special

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying all of DC’s new Absolute titles, and while I’ve loved Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman—both of which offer profound themes and societal commentary—Absolute Wonder Woman resonates with me on a deeply personal level rather than just a humanitarian one. Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman excel at delivering subtle yet impactful commentary on issues we face in modern society, but Absolute Wonder Woman stands out as the beacon of hope; it’s the comic that reminds me that, no matter how dark things may seem, goodness and positivity on an individualistic level can and will prevail.

Wonder Woman is the superhero identity of Diana, Princess of the Amazons. Created on the island of Themyscira, Wonder Woman is a super-powered demi-goddess with extreme physical strength who utilizes magical gifts (like her famous Lasso of Truth) to defeat her foes. As mighty as her fellow heroes Superman and the Justice League, Wonder Woman is unmatched in her compassion and virtue.
