Demi Moore's Landman Season 2 Role Teased By Co-Creator After Season 1 Criticisms: "A Lot More Story Left To Tell"
This article contains spoilers for Landman season 1, episode 10, “The Crumbs of Hope”
Landman co-creator Christian Wallace teases a larger role for Demi Moore in the aftermath of an eventful season 1 finale. Moore plays Cami Miller in the Taylor Sheridan oil drama, which recently concluded its first installment. The wife of the wealthy Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), and a friend to the lead character Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), Cami doesn't get much focus for most of the Paramount+ series. It's a choice that has faced some criticism, particularly because Landman came out on the heels of Moore's award-winning performance in Coralie Fargeat's body horror film The Substance.
In an interview with Variety, Wallace teases a bigger role for Moore in Landman season 2. Wallace, who is behind the Boomtown podcast that the Paramount+ show is based on, praised Moore's performance in The Substance and says that fellow co-creator Taylor Sheridan has big plans for Cami after Monty's death in the finale:
“There is a lot more story left to tell with Cami. Taylor has big plans, that’s all I’m going to say.”
Moore's Bigger Role In Landman Season 2 & What It Could Mean
It Sets Up An Interesting Dynamic
Monty's fate by the end of Landmanis set into motion by the penultimate episode. The character is found unresponsive and gets transferred to a hospital. He needs a heart transplant if he has any hope of surviving. But, in the finale's closing moments, it's clear that the incapacitated Monty doesn't make it. He dies, leaving behind distraught children and a shocked Cami.
The finale, written by Sheridan and directed by Stephen Kay, is arguably the most Moore has had to do all season. She has been mostly cornered off in scenes with Hamm and can be reliably seen swimming. It becomes more jarring because of Moore's heavily praised body horror role, which could land an Oscar nomination. It may also be a sleight of hand, though, that allows Moore to step into the spotlight in the drama's second chapter as she moves forward in her business endeavors with Tommy and without Monty.
Our Take On Moore's Bigger Role In Landman Season 2
Expect The Show To Return
Landman season 2 is not officially confirmed. But in remarks prior to the show's premiere, Moore mentioned that there was already a plan to begin filming the second installment. Intentionally or just as the byproduct of Hamm's short stint, viewers will likely get the chance to learn more about Cami's friendship with Tommy and her life outside of Monty after she previously took on a supporting capacity. It may end up being a smart use of an award-winning performer after all.
