Dexter: Original Sin Shockingly Keeps Ignoring A Major Dexter & Brian Moser Detail From Their Season 1 Reunion

WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Original Sin episode 8.After eight episodes, the Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin continues to ignore a crucial detail between Dexter and Brian from the original series. After Brian's infamous ice truck passed Dexter in Dexter: Original Sin episode 7, it became clear that Dexter's biological brother had been keeping a watchful eye on him throughout the season. Although Brian appears in several Original Sin flashback scenes with Harry and Laura Moser, he doesn't have a big role and hardly talks to Dexter or his mom all that much.

Dexter: Original Sin episode 8 finds Harry searching for a serial killer with Maria LaGuerta. The killer murders a psychologist from Tampa, which leads Harry and LaGuerta to search through the doctor's patient records, only for Harry to come across Brian's file. Without even needing to prove it, Harry knows that Brian is likely the killer Miami Metro is searching for. These developments set up a potential confrontation between Harry and Brian, who haven't seen each other since that fateful day in the shipping container years before.

Dexter: Original Sin's Flashbacks Ignore Dexter Only Calling Brian "Biney"

Original Sin Omits A Small Yet Crucial Detail In Dexter & Brian's Dynamic

While Brian is seen in many of the Dexter: Original Sin flashback scenes, he and Dexter are hardly ever depicted interacting with each other, which implies a distance in their relationship. In the original series, it was a huge deal between the brothers that Dexter used to call Brian "Biney," a fact that contributed to Dex's conflicting emotions about reuniting with Brian in Dexter season 1. However, Dexter hasn't called Brian "Biney" once in any of Original Sin's flashbacks.

The flashback scenes in Dexter: Original Sin are focused primarily on Harry and Laura's relationship after she becomes a police informant for Miami Metro. These scenes offer a compelling look at their dynamic with never-before-seen detail, and add entertainment value and backstory to the series. That being said, young Dexter and Brian are treated mostly as background characters in these scenes, which is unfortunate since it would have been interesting to see their sibling dynamic at that age. Both boys are quite young during these scenes, but old enough to offer some insight, such as Dexter calling Brain "Biney".

Dexter: Original Sin's Flashbacks Make Brian Even More Unsympathetic

Brian & Dexter Don't Have Any Brotherly Moments In The Laura & Harry Flashbacks

Brian is underutilized in the Dexter: Original Sin flashbacks and doesn't offer much to the overarching lore of his character. One might think that Original Sin would at least make Brian more likable or sympathetic as a kid, but this is not the case.

Dexter calling Brian "Biney" would have been a small but crucial detail in Dexter: Original Sin, making its absence frustrating.

Interestingly, the show doesn't make it seem like Dexter likes his brother all that much during these flashbacks, which contrasts with the notion that the boys were quite close before Laura died and Harry adopted Dexter. Dexter calling Brian "Biney" would have been a small but crucial detail in Dexter: Original Sin, making its absence frustrating.
