Diablo 4 Season 7: Season Of Witchcraft
Continuing the regular release of new seasonal content, Diablo 4 has announced their seventh season, Season of Witchcraft, to be coming soon. This exciting season gives players a chance to take on the magical abilities of three witches, regardless of which class the player has chosen to play as. In return, players must help solve the mystery of who is stealing heads off the Tree of Whispers and clear the corruption that is spreading through Sanctuary as these heads transform into Frankenstein-like monsters.
While Season 6, Season of Hatred Rising, offered a bit less content than usual due to the simultaneous release of the Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred expansion, Season 7 is bouncing back with plenty of new story and gameplay mechanics for everyone. The Vessel of Hatred DLC is not required to access the season, although there will be three new Runes added for VoH owners. However, the vast majority of content and rewards for Season of Witchcraft is available for all Diablo 4 players, and recent changes mean that players don't even have to have finished the game's main story.
Diablo 4 Season Of Witchcraft Release Date
And A New Armory Update Is Added To All Realms
Diablo 4's seventh season, Season of Witchcraft, will begin on January 21, 2025, at 10 a.m. PST. As with all seasons, it is expected to last for roughly three months and players will be required to make a new character on a seasonal server to access the limited-time content. The witch powers gained during the season will not carry over to other servers, as they are only for the limited-time season, but any rewards of cosmetics, pets, or other types will be unlocked for the player's account, regardless of server.
Alongside this new season, there will also be an update that adds a much-requested Armory to all realms of the game. In the Armory, players will be able to save builds for their characters to easily experiment with different mechanics and see which is the strongest or most fun build to use without having to manually change everything each time they want to swap. Other quality-of-life updates, including changes to greater affixes and class quests, are also being added to the full game, not simply the seasonal journey.
Heads Are Being Stolen In This Spooky Season
The Story Of Season Of Witchcraft
Most Diablo 4 players are aware that the Tree of Whispers is a core part of the endgame, offering world objectives for rewards. This mysterious tree has the heads of its unfortunate victims hanging from the tree limbs, with their souls becoming part of the essence of the tree itself. In Season of Witchcraft, many of these heads have been mysteriously stolen, and the Witches of Hawezar, the coven called to protect the Tree of Whispers, need the Wanderer's help in saving Sanctuary yet again.
Meanwhile, the freed heads are seeking out bodies to claim as their own, and even transforming into strange, mutated creatures of new design. Players, as the Wanderer, must seek out and destroy these monstrocities, return the heads to the Tree, and solve the mystery of how and why this is happening. Following the Seasonal Questline, players will tackle these horrors and help the Tree of Whispers for new bounties to seek out.
Gameplay Offers Three Schools Of Witchcraft Powers
Watch Out For Headrotten Bosses, With Valuable Heads
Seasons are designed as a bit of endgame content where developers and players can just enjoy playing with a variety of different, sometimes unusual, gameplay mechanics and character builds. In Season of Witchcraft, three Witches of Hawezar offer the Wanderer their witch powers in exchange for help. Each witch offers a different school of magic, which can be used by any player, even if they are playing a class that is not a magic-user.
Witch | Power | Spells |
|---|---|---|
Ouna | Eldritch Powers |
|
Gelena | Psyche Powers |
|
Caidin | Growth & Decay Powers |
|
There is also a Piranhado spell offered which creates a watery tornado filled with dangerous piranhas which appears to do some area of effect damage. This spell is said to be in the Lost school of Witchcraft. This Lost power is one that can be found while adventuring and exists outside the Coven's purview.
Ouna's Eldritch Powers Offer Powerful Fire Damage
Ouna's Eldritch magic will grant players more of an offensive ability through spells of fire and destruction. Among these spells there are things like Firebat Servants which summon fiery bats to swarm enemies inflicting 20% fire damage. Eldritch magic also provides the Doom Orb spell which casts an orb of pure Eldritch energy that will circle the player character and damage all enemies it touches for 400% fire damage and can explode.
Gelena's Psyche Powers Provide Defensive Strength
Gelena's Psyche magic is more of a defensive school of witchcraft. The spell Aura of Lament will slow enemies while providing the player character with 3 primary resources each second for each enemy that is inside the aura. Meanwhile, the Vengeful Spirit spell provides a spirit servant who will take all damage as long as it is present, and can deal 750% damage.
Caidin's Growth & Decay Powers Deal With Poisons
Caidin's Growth and Decay magic is more focused on damage over time, dealing with poisons, diseases, and hexes. These powerful spells each offer poison or shadow damage that provides damage over time effects rather than all the damage happening at once. Additionally, the Poison Frog Servant spell summons a poison frog to attack and poison enemies for 150% damage over three seconds, and then the frog will explode violently on death to cause further damage.
All Witchcraft powers can be leveled up to become even more powerful as players hunt down the Headrotten and return Heads to the Tree of Whispers and gain favor with The Coven. A unique altar under the Tree of Whispers will allow players to access new powers. Additionally, players can use the Restless Rot they earn by slaying the Headrotten to upgrade powers directly from their inventories.
Seasonal Rewards Include A New Raven Pet And More
Battle Pass Offers A Free Tier As Well As Paid Option
Following the Season Journey and either the Free or Premium Battlepass will provide players with rewards as they play. The Season Journey will offer a new raven pet named Dorian who can assist with picking up gold and materials. In the Free Battlepass there will be five weapon transmogs and a Black Masquerade clothing transmog that can offer unique looks for the player's character. Other rewards include a new town portal skin, seasonal titles, and more.
Naturally, the paid Premium Battlepass will offer many additional rewards, including the Wightscale and Nightwinder mounts, a Grand High Witch armor set, and many other cosmetics, emotes, town portal skins, and more. Although there is plenty to be gained in the free seasonal experience, Diablo 4 certainly knows how to tempt players to purchase the Premium Battlepass with these impressive rewards.
