Diablo 4 Shares 2025 Roadmap With Some Exciting Surprises, Including When To Expect The Next Expansion

As Diablo 4 approaches its two-year anniversary this June, developers at Blizzard have shared a roadmap of what players can expect to see for the rest of 2025, and even a glimpse into 2026. The roadmap shows how The Age of Hatred will continue with three upcoming Seasonal themes that include earnable pets, updates, and more. This roadmap also reveals several surprises, however, including when to look for the second expansion and mysterious collaborations with other franchises.

Currently, Diablo 4 players are still able to enjoy the temporary game content from Season 7, Season of Witchcraft, until Season 8 goes live on April 29. With the reveal of this new roadmap for the game's content, it is now confirmed that the previously-rumored returning character is none other than Belial.

The laid-out schedule doesn't end there, continuing to showcase the rest of the Seasonal themes for all of 2025 and even a brief, teasing peek behind the curtain of what will come in 2026.

2025 Roadmap For Diablo 4 Breaks It Down By Quarter

Permanent And Seasonal Content Additions

As the first quarter of 2025 is coming to a close, the end of April will bring the next major update with Season 8: Belial's Return. In addition to this limited-time seasonal journey, new Lair Bosses and an updated Lair Boss system are added. In June, Diablo 4 will celebrate its second anniversary with an event that is yet to be described, but will undoubtedly provide a fun change of pace for the Wanderer protagonist.

Two New IP Collaborations Are Coming In 2025

The Dark Diablo Universe Melds With Two Mystery Universes This Year

Although, unfortunately, there will be no BlizzCon until 2026, that isn't slowing down Diablo 4's momentum any. Two surprise collaborations will be taking place during 2025, although developers at Blizzard are remaining tight-lipped regarding what games or franchises will be crossing over with Diablo. The first will take place sometime during the second quarter, between April and July, and the second near the end of the year, between September and December.

The PTR for Diablo 4's season 8 is now open, and it is introducing a new bonus for defeating bosses that will make fighting them even more rewarding.

The only hint provided about what properties these collaborations will be with is that the developers are "extremely excited to meld the Diablo universe with universes that complement its dark themes."

Diablo 4's Next Expansion Won't Arrive Until 2026

Sadly, A Longer Wait Than Many Hoped For Since Vessel Of Hatred

Despite many Diablo 4 players wishing for an expansion to come every year, expanding on the deep lore and storyline involving Sanctuary's fate, it appears that developers are going to be following a pattern of DLC releases similar to what was seen in Diablo 3. Although Vessel of Hatred was added to Diablo 4 after only one year, Diablo 3's expansions arrived with two to three years between launches. According to Diablo 4's current roadmap, the second expansion to Diablo 4 is slated to arrive next year, in 2026.

No title or further information has been provided for the second expansion yet, although it will continue to follow the main story campaign of the game. Its content will pick up where Vessel of Hatred's story ended, which left players at a thrilling bit of a cliffhanger. For any players who have yet to experience the paid DLC of Vessel of Hatred, they should take the time to see that story before the next expansion to Diablo 4 arrives in 2026.
