Disney Dreamlight Valley's Endless Fetch Quests Are Getting Old, But The Solution Is Simple

Disney Dreamlight Valley is one of the leading simulation games in the modern cozy gaming scene, but it isn't perfect. With endless opportunities for players to express their creativity, the game offers many ways to decorate the beautiful fantasy world of Dreamlight Valley and customize characters. Additionally, the game taps into a strong sense of nostalgia for Disney and its beloved characters, many of whom are available to befriend in the game. Disney Dreamlight Valley truly offers one of the most relaxing gaming experiences out there.

Despite the game's primary focus on offering a ton of creative freedom and nostalgia for players to explore, there is one area of the gameplay in which Disney Dreamlight Valley falls short: the game's quest system. There's no shortage of quests to complete in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and it can be very easy to rapidly stack up the main story and friendship leveling quests at a ferocious rate, which at times can feel a little overwhelming. However, what can make quests feel tedious and difficult to complete is the fact that most are simply fetch quests.

Fetch Quests Are Too Repetitive In Disney Dreamlight Valley

Material Collection Just Isn't Exciting

Following what can feel like an extensive amount of dialogue, the to-do list for every quest usually entails running around the world in Disney Dreamlight Valley in order to obtain a variety of materials to complete the task at hand. Many of these materials can be obtained through the game's various farming activities, such as fishing, mining, foraging, and gardening, which can take up a lot of time.

Upon obtaining the items, players will return to the character they are completing the quest with, only for the character to explain that they then need the character to collect even more materials. This endless pattern of fetching materials can grow tiresome very quickly, especially when the game could take so many other opportunities.

Cozy Games Can Still Have Interesting Challenges

A video game being cozy doesn't necessarily mean that the gameplay should be without puzzles and challenges. Take Infinity Nikki, for example, which markets itself as a cozy open world. Despite that focus on relaxation, it does feature some combat and a ton of entertaining mini-games that are constantly evolving and becoming better as the developers improve on the game.

Another example is Cult of the Lamb, a cozy game that features crusades to gather materials as one of the most entertaining parts of the game. In the case of Disney Dreamlight Valley, it would be nice if the developers took note of cozy game competitors and how many of them don't just opt for very basic and tedious fetch quests.

How Disney Dreamlight Valley Could Shake Up Its Quests

Disney Dreamlight Valley Has Room To Experiment

Because the developer of Disney Dreamlight Valley, Gameloft, boasts that the game's development and improvements are community-driven, the studio should be poised to take criticism of the quests to heart. All that would be necessary to shake up the quests is to include some very simple mini-games or tasks like 'Spot the Difference', where players could be shown two matching stills from a beloved Disney film to identify what is different between the two. Activities like Cult of the Lamb's crusades or the inclusion of platforming levels could also add an entirely new element of fun to Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The game's repetitive nature can potentially hinder gameplay.

There are many reasons why Disney Dreamlight Valley is one of the most successful cozy games on the market right now, and the game's continuous in-game updates and additional expansion packs help to keep the game exciting. However, the quest system's repetitive nature can potentially hinder gameplay, causing players to grow tired of the endless and constant fetch quests that pile up in the quest menu. Because of the quest system, it is easy to feel overwhelmed while playing the game, which may cause players to regularly put the game down before picking it back up again.

In light of all the continuous improvements that Gameloft has been introducing to the game, Gameloft could start small with improvements to the quest system, adding small activities to the tasks in Disney Dreamlight Valley and gradually building them up. With a little bit of creativity and innovation, this is something that Disney Dreamlight Valley could add in the not-too-distant future, and the experience of playing the game could become more competitive with recent cozy games that offer much better and more exciting quest systems.
