Do You Miss Fairy Tail? The Manga's Creator Has a Perfect Recommendation for You
Fairy Tail has been a huge hit ever since it debuted in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2006. This story of a Dragon Slayer wizard searching for his adoptive dragon father was adapted into a long-running anime series and helped solidify its creator, Hiro Mashima, as a major name in the Japanese entertainment industry. Now, while working on his latest series, Eden’s Zero, Mashima is using his influence to spotlight a new manga series he’s a fan of.
Volume 2 of the newly published Galaxias manga by Ao Hatesaka features a special illustration by Hiro Mashima, along with a comment that reads, “The excitement never stops! A composition with a great sense of movement! I’m still in shock!” This collaboration with a powerhouse mangaka is the best thing that the up-and-coming series could hope for.
Galaxias Is a Prize-Winning Manga on the Rise
A World of Dragonkin and Adventure
Ao Hatesaka’s Galaxias first appeared as a one-shot that won the Grand Prize in the 2022 Weekly Shonen Magazine Newcomer Manga Award. The one-shot, published in Magazine Pocket, received the highest score in the award’s history. Following its success, the series officially began serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine—Fairy Tail’s old home—in 2024. It is currently being published in both Magazine Pocket and collected volumes.
The story takes place years after the assassination of a supreme ruler known as the "Dragon King" in a kingdom inhabited by dragon-tailed beings called "Dragonkin." The protagonist, a human girl named Gio, lives in a remote corner of this world, yearning for adventure and dissatisfied with her rural life. One day, she encounters a mysterious young man named Nereid, who has lost his memory. This fateful meeting sets Gio on a journey, and together, they embark on an adventure where courage and curiosity open doors to the unknown.
Could Galaxias Get an Anime?
Hiro Mashima’s Continued Influence
Galaxias is still a new series, less than a year into its serialization, but it has already attracted serious attention from fans and professionals like Hiro Mashima. While there are no concrete plans for an anime adaptation yet, it wouldn’t be surprising if Galaxias makes the jump to the screen soon.
