Dog Mountain to Require Hiking Permits This Year
The new system is an attempt to alleviate crowding at the popular Columbia River Gorge trail.

Starting March 31 and running through July 1, hikers who want to summit Dog Mountain at the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area will need a $1 or $2 permit for the privilege. The new system is another attempt to lighten the spring crowds that descend on this popular trail; the Forest Service has also reduced trailhead parking and added bus service.
