Elliot Stabler Is (Finally) Back For A New Fight In First Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5 Teaser, Release Date Revealed

The trailer for Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 has arrived, along with a variety of first-look images and an official release date. The crime drama spinoff stars Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler, a detective who originally appeared in the previous spinoff Special Victims Unit and had returned to New York 10 years after his original departure as part of an Organized Crime Control Bureau task force. Although the previous four seasons aired on NBC, Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 is set to run exclusively on the streaming service Peacock.

Peacock has now unveiled the official trailer for Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5, which they have announced is set to premiere on Peacock with its first two episodes on April 17, followed by new episodes weekly. Although the ad is only 15 seconds long, it is intense, featuring Elliot Stabler continuing his pursuit of justice and teasing that "this fight has only just begun" in voiceover over a series of action-packed clips, including one that implies he may be T-boned by a car. Watch the trailer below:

They have also released a gallery of first-look images that showcase the return of the core team of the series. In addition to Meloni's lead character, this includes Danielle Moné Truitt as squad supervisor Ayanna Bell, Rick Gonzalez as undercover detective Bobby Reyes, and Ainsley Seiger as hacker Jet Slootmaekers. The images also reveal the return of Dean Norris, now a series regular, as Elliot's older brother Randall Stabler. See the images, along with new key art for the season, below:

This release date announcement for the Law & Order show finally offers clarity about its return, several months after it would have returned to air if it had not been moved from NBC. Both of the other ongoing shows in the franchise, which are the flagship series and Special Victims Unit, returned to the network on their usual schedule, both premiering on October 3, 2024. This April release date means that Organized Crime will be streaming during a schedule that is greatly staggered from the usual pattern, coming more than six months after its fellow shows.

Its more serialized format is likely one reason it has lent itself to binge-watching...

It is unclear if this will affect the way the Organized Crime story plays out. While its more serialized format is likely one reason it has lent itself to binge-watching and spurred this move to streaming, this off-kilter release schedule severely limits its ability to overlap with the rest of the Law & Order universe. Although it has already been revealed that Special Victims Unit's Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who is Stabler's longtime love interest, will appear in the series, further crossover potential is otherwise severely curtailed by the streaming run being so separated from the timing of other storylines.

The Show Could Still Be A Success

As this trailer reveals, Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 is not sacrificing any of the high-stakes storylines that it already had, even if it will probably engage with the rest of the franchise slightly less. This could be good for viewership, and the fact that it will be airing episodes off-season could also help even more viewers find it, as it is filling a gap in the Law & Order airing schedule and thus might be a more enticing viewing prospect in spite of no longer being on its former network.
