EPA, Navajo Nation Ask for Delay in Drilling Plan Near Great Sand Dunes NP

Several groups, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Navajo Nation, are protesting the Bureau of Land Management’s planned auction of mineral rights within a mile of Great Sand Dunes National Park. Among the concerns: environmental damage in the sensitive ecosystem and the fact that the Navajo consider two peaks in the area to be sacred.
