Fake doctor spreading misinformation on social media? Telangana Medical Council makes move

Broker Network Suspected After Arrest of Fake Doctor at NBMCH

Hyderabad: While dedicated doctors work tirelessly to educate the public on safe healthy practices, a man with only first-aid training for emergencies was found pretending to be a licensed doctor on a popular social media platform Instagram. The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) on its path to eradicating quacks recently called-out the man for spreading misinformation to the netizens.

As per The Hindu news report, the council stated that the fake doctor under the username ‘all in one ram’ with 86,000 followers claimed to be a medical expert after receiving mere first-aid training for working with ambulances. He allegedly duped the people for three months on the social media platform.

Without any medical knowledge or degree, the man allegedly kept misleading the public by giving wrong medical advice. Additionally, the council stated that he also provided unscientific and unreliable health advice, including emergency treatment protocols and ICU medication suggestions.

This comes after the council conducted a three-month investigation after receiving numerous complaints about his activities on social media. The probe team led by Dr Srinivas and Dr Imran Ali eventually captured the quack at Sai Vani Hospital in Hyderabad.

Urging people not to trust advice from fake doctors on social media, TGMC Vice Chairman Srinivas expressed concern over the incident. He told The Hindu, “These fake doctors not only spread unscientific advice but also endanger lives, especially those suffering from chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension."

A statement issued in this regard as reported by TOI mentioned "Rambabu misled people by taking basic first aid training to work in an ambulance while posing as a licensed doctor. After a three-month investigation, TGMC officials were able to track him down. He confused the public by recommending dangerous, unverified health practices, such as advising against treatment during emergencies and promoting unqualified drugs for ICU care."

According to the council, a case will be filed against Rambabu under the provisions of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act Sections 34 and 54, and the Telangana State Medical Practitioners Registration (TSMPR) Act Section 22.
