Fans Petition To Save Dead By Daylight Mobile As Its Closure Draws Closer
Dead by Daylight Mobile is slated to shut down this month, but some dedicated fans are hoping they'll be able to save it. Dead by Daylight pits four survivors against a killer in a multiplayer world of Lovecraftian horrors and terrors. The mobile game was released in 2020 and hit over 10 million downloads worldwide within just a few months of its launch.
Despite its immense success, the mobile title's developer, Behaviour Interactive, has officially announced on the Dead by Daylight Mobile website that the game will be removed from mobile storefronts this month and completely shut down later this year. A petition started by Alexander Azarov on Change.orgissues a heartfelt appeal to the developers to keep the game going.
At the time of this writing, the petition has received over 3,000 signatures, showing that many fans would like to keep the mobile title alive. Azarov writes that the game has become quite special to them and many other fans over the years and that it allowed them to play the title, which they couldn't play on their computers. "Please, do not close the game!" asks Azarov. "If the game is closed, for me it will be the end of my journey in the world of the Fog."
When Is Dead By Daylight Mobile Shutting Down?
The Game Will Be Gone By March 2025
Dead by Daylight Mobile will be shut down in two phases, according to the official announcement on the game's website. The title will be delisted from mobile storefronts on January 16th, at which point it will become impossible to download the game or make in-game purchases. The app's service will be officially shut down on March 20. Fans are welcome to continue playing until then.
The petition erroneously reports the delisting date as January 26. The correct date is January 16, as stated on the official website.
The letter to players cites "ongoing shifts in NetEase Games' development and operational strategies," making it sound like this decision was not made by the developers but rather by company circumstances not in their control. The developers have prepared a "Welcome Package" for players wishing to transition from the mobile game to the PC or console version that's based on every player's money spent and XP earned in Dead by Daylight Mobile.
Our Take: Dead By Daylight Mobile Fills A Gap For Those Without Consoles Or PC
The Mobile Game Allowed Fans To Play Without A Dedicated Gaming System
Although Behaviour Interactive has made it appealing to switch to the console or PC version of the game, for many fans this simply isn't an option. The mobile game was a chance for everyone to experience the world of Dead by Daylight even if they didn't have a dedicated gaming system.
The petition starter, Azarov, cites this as a main reason to continue the mobile game running, so players from all walks of life can continue to play the game from their phones and mobile devices. They write:
"Dear developers, listen to your players! Not all people in the world have powerful computers. The mobile version of the game gave everyone from the poor to the rich the opportunity to play the role of a survivor or a killer and have fun in this amazing world."
The mobile title bridged the gap between console and PC gamers and anyone who owns a phone, making the title much more accessible to fans. It would be great if the developers could do with this title what Nintendo did with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete, and leave the game up for players to enjoy even after service ends, but this is significantly more difficult with a game that has multiplayer as its core gameplay.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the petition will change anything, as previous Dead by Daylight petitions were unsuccessful at achieving their goals. At the moment, all fans can do is enjoy their last few months on Dead by Daylight Mobile until the title is gone forever on March 20.
