MANILA – DN Steel-Far Eastern University survived PGJC Navy, 25-19, 29-27, 25-23, Sunday to gain a share of the lead in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Dryx Saavedra scored 13 points while Miko Espartero chipped in 12 points on nine attacks and three service aces as the Ultras rolled to their third win, joining the Savouge Spin Doctors on top of the standings.

“There is still a lot to clean up because it seems like it was a mess earlier. The setter takes the first ball, not knowing who will attack or take it," DN Steel-FEU coach Eddieson Orcullo said. “There were a lot of errors, plus the service in the second set was crucial, there were a lot of misses. Maybe, they're adjusting."

Lirick Mendoza had 10 points followed by Doula Noongala with nine, while Benny Martinez made 19 excellent sets.

Vennie Ceballos had 15 excellent receptions and three excellent digs for DN Steel-FEU.

Joeven Dela Vega scored 16 points on 13 attacks, two aces and a block for the Sealions, who fell to 1-1.

In the other game, La Salle-EcoOil scored its debut win after stopping Martelli Meats, 25-21, 25-20, 25-13.

Noel Michael Kampton finished with 12 points, while Joshua Magalaman and Vince Maglinao contributed 11 points each for the Green Oilers.

Jerico Adajar made 15 excellent sets, while skipper Menard Guerrero produced nine excellent receptions and seven digs for La Salle-EcoOil.

Razzel Palisoc scored 10 points and Andrei Bundoc had seven points for Martelli Meats, who absorbed their third consecutive loss. (PNA)
