Final Destination 6 Has Already Brought Back The Best Thing About The Franchise 14 Years After The Last Movie

After 14 years of waiting for another installment, Final Destination: Bloodlinesis now on its way, and it has already brought back the best thing about the franchise. The Final Destination franchise quickly became one of the best horror sagas of the 2000s due to its iconic death scenes and fun twists. Therefore, when a reboot movie was teased, many were left wondering ifFinal Destination 6 would introduce another twist that would help revitalize the franchise after the last few films had increasingly lower ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick has previously stated in a Final Destination 6 update that the movieis not just going to be another kind of ‘we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them,” situation, as the plot has become repetitive. Instead, Final Destination 6 will focus on new ideas and follow a different formula that hasn’t been seen before. Now, with the release of Final Destination: Bloodlines movie trailer on February 3, we have finally been given a first look at what lies in store for the latest installment.

Final Destination Bloodlines’ First Revealed Death Is Already One Of The Franchise’s Best

The Ceiling Fan Callback Makes For A Tense Trailer

TheFinal Destination: Bloodlines trailer is an entire two minutes from the movie showcasing one of its death scenes, and it already looks like one of the franchise’s best. Following a tattoo artist inking himself in his studio, things begin to get tense as the trailer shows a ceiling fan twirling dangerously close to some decorative chains. As the artist finishes a “DAD” tattoo on his arm, in classic Final Destination fashion, a sequence of events begins to unfold, leading to the artist’s nose ring becoming stuck to a hanging chain, which eventually sends him falling into an accidental fire.

The character’s “DAD” tattoo follows the announcement that he has just found out his father has passed away, which seems to connect to the official synopsis and title alluding to some form of bloodline connection between deaths. The official synopsis is as follows:

Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.

Furthermore, the use of the ceiling fan in Final Destination’s movie trailer is a callback to the pitch that Lipovsky and Stein used to sell their vision for the movie. A staged, pre-recorded death caused by a ceiling fan put together with VFX surprised executives at New Line Cinema and served as the first impression of what the movie was going to be like if greenlight. Therefore, to include it in the trailer was a brilliant move as it reminds audiences that the new Final Destination movie wants to create the same tension that the horror franchise is so famous for.

A Final Destination Movie Is Only As Good As Its Most Creative Death Scenes

Final Destination 6 Needs To Live Up To Previous Death Scenes

The biggest worry about Final Destination 6 was that the movie would feel stale in comparison to previous installments, as it is hard to match the creativity of previous death scenes. Taking everyday occurrences and using a combination of coincidences to execute fate’s targets made Final Destination extremely nerve-wracking to watch as, despite the odds being against the situation happening in real life, it was never completely out of the realm of possibility. This is whyFinal Destination 2’s log scene still remains the most disturbing scene for many, as many are still untrustworthy of log trucks because of the franchise.

The deaths must have an element of credibility to them, no matter how far-fetched, to achieve that sense of tension and fear

The franchise definitely would not have become such a staple of the genre if it wasn’t for Final Destination’s ridiculous death scenes, as the bizarre moments are what stay in the minds of audiences for years to come. However, the deaths must have an element of credibility to them, no matter how far-fetched, to achieve that sense of tension and fear. Final Destination 6’s trailer shows that the movie seems to embody everything that Final Destination should be, delivering a fantastically outrageous death scene that feels real due to its setup, but it also promises more than that.

Final Destination 6 Must Have A Lot More In Store If This Death Is Being Shown

The Trailer Teases That There Are Better Deaths To Come

Using a death scene for Final Destination: Bloodlines’ trailer suggests that the movie has a lot more in store than this scene. WithFinal Destination: Bloodlines May 15 release date looming closer, the trailer must showcase the very best of the movie to get audiences interested, especially after 14 years since the franchise’s last film. Therefore, to blatantly showcase a death scene in the trailer, especially for a movie that relies on the audience not knowing what will happen next to the characters, is a bold move and implies that Final Destination 6 has something even better to offer.

Considering there have been five Final Destination movies so far, Final Destination 6 needs a different story if it aims to reboot the franchise. By demonstrating a familiar Final Destination-style death in the trailer, the movie hints that there will be even better ones in the film itself, however, it could be that the deaths are not the most important part. While ridiculous deaths are a staple of the franchise, previous comments hinting at a new formula and revitalization could mean that Final Destination: Bloodlines will have more than just that, which is exciting.
