Forza Horizon 5 Is Coming To PlayStation, But With A Catch That Has Players Concerned
Forza Horizon 5is coming to PlayStation in a little over a month, and while fans of the franchise should be excited, it seems that PlayStation users are concerned about game preservation. Microsoft has revealed that Forza Horizon 5 will still require a Microsoft account, even on the PlayStation console. For those who purchase the Premium edition, the title will become available on April 25, while Standard edition players must wait a few more days as it releases on April 29.
According to VGC, a newly released FAQ section states,
"Yes, in addition to a PSN account you'll need to link to a Microsoft account in order to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This process begins the first time you start up the game on your console."
While a PlayStation 5 port and a free content update for Forza Horizon 5 is exciting, the revelation of needing to log into a Microsoft account to play via PlayStation is not. Fans have already taken to social media to voice their concerns, claiming that this move is "very disappointing" and something many Forza fans won't support.
Forza 5 Will Require A Microsoft Account, Even On PlayStation
Forza Fans Are Not Thrilled About This New Revelation
When first launching Forza Horizon 5 via PlayStation, users will be prompted to sign in to their Microsoft account in order to actually access the title. There appears to be no way around this, either, as the game is only being released digitally, which means this step is mandatory. Does It Play took to X to share a screenshot from the FAQ section, stating that this mandatory sign-in "basically kills preservation" for the PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 5.
While there is no definitive proof that this step will kill game preservation, it is a step in the wrong direction, according to fans. Others appear to be less concerned, as a simple login doesn't hinder them from accessing one of their favorite titles.
Players Are Concerned About Game Preservation In The Industry
While Important, This Mandatory Step Might Not Be The End All, Be All To Game Preservation
Of course, preserving video games is a top priority for anyone within the gaming industry. The comments on Does It Play's X post seem to lean more toward agreeing with the original poster's sentiment, as well as not thinking this should be a step to take to play Forza Horizon 5. User Cosmic Love writes, "It's pretty silly that you are to log into a Microsoft account to play the game on PlayStation."

Forza Horizon 5 Patch Adds Badges & Custom Racing To Online Play
A new Forza Horizon 5 patch added badges and custom racing to online play, improving on Horizon Open and the game’s progression system.
Other commenters are a bit more vocal in their disappointment, claiming that games could be taken away "with the snap of Microsoft's fingers" if they so happen to choose to remove the title from the platform without warning.
While Microsoft could end up changing this rule down the line, just like what happened with Helldivers 2 when it required a PSN account to play, the future is unknown, and that is why fans are concerned. Hopefully, this decision doesn't impede Forza Horizon 5's success on the PlayStation 5.
