French Association for Scientific Information rebukes hysteria-promoting anti-pesticide activists for endangering sustainable agriculture

We are witnessing a new campaign promoting unfounded fears. In terms of the media, it all started with an AFP dispatch on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, titled “Dangerous pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables in France” … The AFP dispatch was then relayed almost identically by many media outlets […]
Afis denounces the exploitation of these fears for the purpose of promoting an economic sector, promotion done by presenting the products of competing sectors as dangerous for consumers….
Afis also deplores the fact that major media outlets are relaying these fears without providing the scientific elements that would shed light on the subject.
Such campaigns alter the public’s perception of the main health and environmental issues. This anxiety-provoking communication leads a majority of French people to think that pesticides represent a greater risk than smoking or alcohol. The main public health problem concerning fruits and vegetables is their insufficient consumption.
