Galactus Is So Powerful He Somehow Set Up One of DC Comic's Biggest Battles in History
Galactus is one of the most powerful beings in Marvel Comics, and is also known for playing a unique role when the Justice League and the Avengers teamed up to face the ultimate evil, Oan Krona. In fact, the two teams engaged in one of the biggest battles in comic book history over Galactus himself, as the planet devourer’s body became the battleground for this epic confrontation.
... Krona summoning villains from both universes to fight the combined might of the Justice League and the Avengers.
From the creative team of Kurt Busiek and George Pérez, JLA/Avengers follows Oan Krona as he traverses the multiverse, laying waste to entire universes in his search for the ultimate secret: what existed before the Big Bang?
When Krona arrives in the Marvel Universe, he is stopped by the Grandmaster, who temporarily saves his reality by revealing Galactus. Since Galactus is the only being who lived before the universe began, Krona becomes eager to meet the cosmic entity who witnessed the dawn of everything.
Krona Used the Bones of Galactus to Build His Fortress
JLA / Avengers #1 Was Released Septemeber 3, 2003
To stall Krona from destroying his universe, the Grandmaster proposes a game: each will enlist the greatest champions of their respective worlds to hunt down twelve powerful artifacts across both universes. The Justice League and the Avengers, unaware of the true stakes, compete to secure the most objects. The League ultimately claims victory, capturing seven of the twelve. However, Krona refuses to honor the game’s terms, attacking the Grandmaster and extracting all his knowledge about Galactus. To stop Krona, the Grandmaster uses the assembled artifacts to merge the DC and Marvel universes into one.
The newly merged universe soon begins to destabilize as the heroes realize their world isn’t real. Both the Justice League and the Avengers launch a final assault on Krona to restore their realities, only to discover that he has repurposed Galactus' remains as his fortress. The ensuing battle is one of the most epic in comic book history, with Krona summoning villains from both universes to fight the combined might of the Justice League and the Avengers. Adding to the chaos, chronal fluctuations ripple through the conflict, causing different versions of the teams and their rosters to flicker in and out of existence.
Galactus was originally a space explorer from the planet Taa named Galan. When his universe ended, Galan merged with the Sentience of the Universe and became Galactus in the new universe following the Big Bang.
