Gen V Season 2 Return Gets Definitive Response From The Boys Spinoff Star After Surprise Season 1 Role
Gen V star Patrick Schwarzenegger clarifies his season 2 involvement after season 1's surprise twist for his character. The 2023 spin-off followed the hopeful students of Godolkin University as the young supes in training uncovered conspiracies and mysteries surrounding the Vought-owned school. As part of the Gen V season 1 cast, Schwarzenegger played Luke Riordan, the top-ranked student at Godolkin and a pyrokinetic who was once envisioned as the most promising person in his class. However, he died in the very first episode, later making several posthumous appearances via flashbacks and hallucinations.
While speaking about his upcoming role in HBO's The White Lotus season 3 with ScreenRant, Schwarzenegger touched on his role in Gen V and his potential future in the Boys universe. Schwarzenegger confirmed that Luke will not appear in season 2, as he had scheduling conflicts at the time. However, he is open to returning in the future. He said:
No, I wish, but I was, we were actually filming White Lotus at the same time that they were filming Gen V. So it didn't work out. But maybe season three or some other time.
What Luke's Season 2 Absence Means For Gen V's Future
The Supe Left A Major Impact On His Brother
Luke was always one of the least likely people to return from Gen V season 1's cast. He took his own life after he learned the truth about his and his brother Sam's (Asa Germann) treatment at "the Woods," a secret facility experimenting on supes. Despite this, Luke made various appearances throughout the season as a manifestation of Sam's confidence that urged him to do the right thing. This laid the groundwork for Schwarzenegger to potentially remain a part of the cast going into Gen V season 2.
However, Gen V season 1 ended with Sam dismissing this representation of his better side to follow through with Cate's (Maddie Phillips) plan to take vengeance on the humans who wronged them, leading to the visual of Luke disappearing. With The Boys season 4 seeing Sam and Cate join Homelander's (Antony Starr) coup, it remains clear that he is still dedicated to their plan. However, should Sam see a change of heart, Schwarzenegger's character may return to guide him towards a better future in subsequent Gen V seasons.
Our Take On Luke's Potential Gen V Future
The Character Is A Rare Example Of A True Hero
Luke Riordan stands out as a rare kind of supe within the world of The Boys. In a world where nearly every supe has been corrupted, he remained true to his traditionally heroic ideals even with his status as a high-ranking student, becoming loved for his rare humility and kindness. His death is a true tragedy. Sam's dismissal of his brother only adds further weight to this, with his final scene being a subtle moment that helped usher the Boys universe into its darkest hour. Though Schwarzenegger won't be in Gen V season 2, his return in the future could mark a major turn of the tide.
