Geralt Of Rivia Epic Cosplay Brings The Legendary Witcher To Life Ahead Of Season 4 Recast

The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia comes to life in a new cosplay as season 4's recasting of the character approaches. Based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix's The Witcher premiered in 2019, introducing Henry Cavill as Geralt, a monster hunter. After two seasons playing the character, Cavill revealed in fall 2022 that he would be departing the show following season 3, and it's now confirmed that actor Liam Hemsworth will take over as the character with The Witcher season 4, which is expected to release on the streamer later this year.

As audiences await Hemsworth's new take on Geralt, FD Cosplay Studio takes to Instagram to share an accurate Witcher cosplay. The cosplay, which is shown off in three images and a video, features the character's unique silver hair and the leather and chain mail armor look featured in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game. The cosplay also includes multiple different swords. Check out the cosplay below:

Many questions remain about how season 4 will fare following The Witcher season 3's ending, but the cosplay is the latest reminder that the new episodes will have a major hurdle to overcome with its Geralt recast. Cavill has been a key reason for the show's success so far, and the series has actually been one of his most notable projects as an actor outside of his tenure in the DCU. Cavill didn't cite a reason for his departure, but rumors have suggested everything from creative disagreements to scheduling conflicts.

While there's lots of pressure on Liam Hemsworth to live up to Henry Cavill in The Witcher, if he can get these parts right, he'll be a great Geralt.

While it's unclear what kind of reception awaits Hemsworth's Geralt in season 4, the show's future is now seemingly set in stone. It's been announced that The Witcher season 5 will end the show, and this season is confirmed to be shot back to back with season 4, suggesting the wait for the final episodes won't be as long as the wait between seasons thus far. The show ending could be for the best, as, on Rotten Tomatoes, audience scores have been declining with each new season, as seen in the chart below:

Our Take On The Witcher Cosplay

The Geralt Recast Could Be Jarring

Though one could quibble about the sword in the Geralt cosplay above, which is more ornate than what the monster hunter actually uses in either the games or the show, the cosplay is generally very impressive, and there's a great amount of attention to detail. One particularly nice touch is the inclusion of a trophy hook on the cosplayer's belt.

The Witcher's cast is about more than just Cavill, but Geralt is the centerpiece of the show. Even if Hemsworth ends up being a great fit, recasting a main character will feel disruptive, just as it would for any other show. From the declining audience scores, it's clear that not all audiences have loved the show's direction of late, and an improvement in the story could certainly make up Cavill's departure. It remains to be seen how The Witcher season 4 will fare with audiences, but the cosplay further reinforces just how much Geralt means to fans.
