Ghosts Star Teases Major Character Return: “Be As Worried As You Could Possibly Be”
Ghosts star Asher Grodman teases the eventual return of Patience (Mary Holland). Before Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) accidentally deserted her, the CBS comedy revealed that Patience had been expelled from her Puritan community. Her character was last seen in Ghosts season 4, episode 3, where she accused Samantha (Rose McIver) of using magic and seemingly transformed her into stone, a misconception among the other deceased occupants. Patience later declared that she would leave Woodstone, then alluded to there being more spirits underground.
During an interview with ScreenRant’s Adam Barnard about Ghosts, Grodman teased that Patience will reappear in future episodes, and that "you should be as worried as you could possibly be." He goes on to explain that, while there is uncertainty about what exists beyond the physical world, the grounds remain just as unexplored. Grodman also notes the kind of abilities Patience has and adds that he would enjoy spending more time with Holland’s character. Read Grodman’s comments below:
I think you should be as worried as you could possibly be. It's one of the fun things about the show when we lean into this universe thing that we don't know. I love when we have mysteries like that. Yeah, there's going to be more. At some point, we'll get some more Patience and find out the answer of what that is.
I don't know exactly when, but it's set up such a wonderful thing with, not only do we not know what's above, we don't know what is in Hell, but we also don't even know what's a few feet underneath our feet. It's fun to have, I think, the power of Patience is not that dissimilar from the power of someone like Elias or something like that. She is a force that can bring us all together to solve a common goal.
Episode 3, the Halloween episode this season, I loved that because it's all hands on deck to try to take care of Sam, even though it was all spun into a tizzy over our own making. Characters like that are so much fun to play with. And yes, it would be a lot of fun to see the juxtaposition of a pantless Jew and a Puritan and how she would handle that. That's certainly a fun little collision.
What This Means For Upcoming Episodes Of Ghosts
Patience Could Bring More Ghosts Back With Her
What causes Patience to someday reemerge is unclear, but based on Grodman’s comments, her appearance could denote trouble for Sam and Jay, and the ghosts of Woodstone. When she was banned from her colony, Patience sought another community that would propel her way of thinking, and though she proved capable of mending relationships over time, her Puritan views largely continued. Going underground, she may collect other spirits and bring them to the manor, and it would be interesting to see how they operate after so many years of isolation and/or whether their behavior aligns with Patience's.

Patience's Ghosts Ominous Farewell Message Creates A New Plot Hole
Ghosts season 4 episode 3's Patience exit seemed to create a massive plot hole by contradicting one of the only things viewers knew about her.
By having Patience come back and developing more ghosts, the series could explore their unique powers as well. Given that most of the spirits occupying Woodstone have supernatural abilities, there might be some below ground who possess similar talents. From what season 4 showed, Patience has the power to make walls bleed, and can supposedly turn people into stone statues. However, the latter was never confirmed, since Sam was alive the whole time, but perhaps upcoming episodes will reveal that Patience can do more.
Our Take On Patience Returning To Ghosts
There Is More To Explore With Her Character
After growing accustomed to the modern world, which included enjoying television shows, Patience finally chose to leave. Despite wanting to maintain her faith, Patience demonstrated that she can appreciate change, so it is worth wondering what version of her character will resurface in future Ghosts episodes. Considering the manner in which she departed, it does not seem like she intends on coming back, making her eventual return all the more compelling.
