On the night of January 27, something knocked over more than 100 old-growth trees on Lake Quinault’s north shore–but weather stations showed no storms or even significant winds that night. One meteorologist investigated the incident and reported a likely cause: a complicated phenomenon involving an offshore front being forced into the valley between two ridges.
