Despite the community largely loving Sony Santa Monica's Norse chapter in Kratos' rage-fueled saga, long-time players have waited years to return to the protagonist's Greek roots. Many are hoping that Sony will make the older games in the series, which were released on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable, playable on modern hardware.

According to reputable leaker and journalist Jeff Grubb on Blue Sky, the recent claims regarding the God of War remaster weren't incorrect but rather premature. Grubb notes that he's heard that the reveal will coincide with the franchise's 20th anniversary, meaning it will allegedly be unveiled on March 22, the day the original game launched in 2005. There is an event set to be held in March to celebrate the anniversary, as popular artist Kris Anka has confirmed that he's creating a piece for the show, but further details have yet to be announced.

As with all rumors of this nature, it's worth taking Grubb's report with a grain of salt until Sony officially announces some kind of God of War remaster. While Grubb's track record is strong, this isn't the first time there's been talk about the older games coming to modern hardware. The widely held belief is that if Sony Santa Monica does remaster the Greek trilogy it will also be released on PC, which would be a first for the older games.

Having said that, there's also a chance that the remaster will be something far more recent: God of War 2018. PlayStation has irked many users in recent years by re-releasing relatively recent games with updated visuals and minor quality-of-life upgrades. While I, alongside many other fans, am desperate for an easy way to play the original God of Wartrilogy, I wouldn't be surprised if the rumored remaster does turn out to be the 2018 reboot. It's an excellent game in its own right and having it available on both PlayStation and PC is great, but those older games were unique and incredibly fun, if somewhat more simplistic. Some parts may not have aged well, as is the case with most games from 2005, but that doesn't mean they should be ignored.
