New series artist Juan Ferreyra joins writer Jason Aaron to turn the volume up to maximum with this explosive second arc of the all-new era of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! The family reunion hasn't exactly gone as planned for the Turtles. Even if they could put their sibling feuds aside, there’s no time for the brothers to celebrate. Hunted by a new Foot-enhanced police force led by the relentless D.A. Hieronymus Hale, the Turtle brothers must endure their worst gut-punch yet: New York City is no longer safe for the TMNT, forcing the mutant heroes to take drastic measures — relocating to the sewers of New Jersey!

As per this synopsis, the turtles are fleeing from New York now that the Foot Clan's ascent to power has rendered the city unsafe for them. The TMNT are on their own now, with their future more uncertain than ever before.

The Foot Clan's evolution from an enemy ninja clan to a full-blown police force targeting mutants has been built up throughout the series, and readers finally get to witness just how dire the situation in New York has become in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5. Casey Jones leads the charge against the Foot's citywide takeover, but his valiant efforts fail to slow down Hieronymus Hale and his fascist army of ninjas. In the end, Casey appears to be killed by Hale via a gunshot, leaving the turtles without a trusted ally and contributing to their eventual retreat.

With New York City in the Foot's clutches, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have no choice but to say goodbye to the city they've called home since their debut in 1984. Their plan is to relocate to New Jersey, distancing themselves not only from their traditional place of residence but also from Mutant Town. The ninja turtles are giving up a community of fellow mutants, as well as the fame they've accumulated - for better and for worse - through their exploits. In New Jersey, the TMNT will be starting fresh with a blank slate.

TMNT's Status Quo Gets Uprooted As the Ninja Turtles Move to New Jersey

In An Already Tumultuous Era, The TMNT Face Yet Another Change

This unexpected shift in scenery isn't the only status quo rewrite in store for the TMNT in Aaron and Ferrerya's series. The brothers' relationship with each other has grown strained, and to make matters worse, Donatello's imprisonment in a mutant zoo has traumatized him and robbed him of his sharp mind. For now, though, their healing must wait until they've found a new sewer to crash in. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are changing in more ways than one, and there will undoubtedly be more twists and turns to come as they make themselves at home in New Jersey.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7 will be available on February 26th, 2025 from IDW Publishing.
